Switching off rear wiper

Featured Replies

Is there anyway to stop the rear wiper from operating when the fronts are on and reverse selected ? VAGCOM ? Asked at the dealers, but they said no ! Just want to check !

Not sure why you would want to change this.IMO it's a useful feature, can't see any downside to it.

Please enlighten us.

Not sure about the OP's reason, but I personally don't want ANY motorized things on the outside to move unless I explicitly tell them to. This includes headlight sprayers, rear wiper, foldable mirrors, power antenna, etc. Everything's always frozen in winter and I'd like to be able to use the windscreen sprayer without also having the headlight sprayers pop up.

Safety feature so you can see where you are going in reverse when its raining. You are by law to make sure all of your windows are free from ice and frost before you drive off. so make sure your rear window is free from ice before you select reverse with windscreen wipers on

As above but if you really don't want it working pull the fuse

I really don't need a health and safety speech. :) Moving parts on the outside is a Bad Thing™ in winter weather regardless.

That's interesting... my Fabia hasn't got that :wonder: is this a standard feature on the vRS?

No, it's standard on all our Skodas, even the Citigo does it.

Mine hasn't got that feature either, thankfully. It's probably the higher end versions that get it as standard.

I've noticed with mine that if I select reverse before I put the front wipers on then the rear one does not automatically start. It does if the fronts are on before reverse selected.

Not sure if this helps - generally I'd prefer if it always came on.....

If you have a tail mounted bike rack then it could be a problem - I've been there but there was no ill effect ! :rain: :peek:

My previous MK1 2006 1.2 12v Fabia in basic trim level had it. Roomster also have this fuction, also basic trim level.

my MK1 vRS has it.

I think the previous poster was trying to save you a possible fine/points for dangerous driving, not preaching H&S.

Tony

Yes

My 1.6SE does it to.

Can be disabled with VCDS if need be or just turn the front wipers off before you out the car in reverse

Yes, it can be disabled with VAG-COM/VCDS.

I turned it off on my Octy2 when the wiper motor started to fail for example, to stop the wiper trying to clear the screen very s-l-o-w-l-y when I went for reverse and had the front wipers on.

There are perfectly good reasons to have it off if that's what the individual wants - you can easily clear the rear screen with a push of the stalk, if you see fit - before reversing.....

If it can be disabled, can it also be set to match the mode of the front wipets? ie if they are on constant, then the rear one goes on constant as well when reversing. I wish there was a constant mode anyway, for when driving on really horrendous motorways.

Not seen an option to have it on all the time, it would inevitably end up wrecking the blade quicker as 95% of the time it would be wiping a pretty dry rear window.

Try it yourself on a quiet road, once it has wiped the screen, immediately push the stalk again to activate it again, keep doing this and you will see what I mean, you do not get enough spray onto the rear window to have the wiper going constantly.
