Skoda UK stock/staff/press vehicle - what to expect?

Good morning all

I am interested in the following Octavia vRS estate:

Looking at the style of number plate and all the expensive extras included I think this may be an ex Skoda HQ or whatever kind of vehicle.

Given it is a year old and done 8k miles - what kind of life will it have had? Will it have been treated as if it was a hire car ie thrashed or has it been lovingly looked after?

My now sold Superb MK2 was ex Skoda, never had a fault in the 2 years I owned the car.

It's a VRS. Grannies don't buy VRS's cos the seats are too hard - of course it's been thrashed! :giggle: :giggle:

But don't let that put you off - over the years I have had 3 ex hire cars and 1 ex rep-mobile. Not a problem with any of them.

Plus- it's only done 8,000 miles in 10 months so I doubt any long term damage can have been done.

If they're like Mercedes when returned they're gone over with a fine tooth comb (proper anally in fact) and any issues get charged back to the employee, so they tend to be fairly well looked after.

It's not a hire/fleet car the number plate shows that much (usually FT/FY etc.) and not neccessarily a Skoda UK car, probably demo/manager car from the dealer.

All cars have to be checked throughout and defects reported/rectified. You would still have the manufacturer warranty on the car, thus a bit of peace of mind.

With regards to thrashing it, a Fabia 12v S with 2000 on the clock could still have been thrashed.

Exactly! And the other side of the coin - I have a cousin in her early 70's who has a 3yr old Yaris that she uses to go to church and very occasional trips out. It has just passed 2500 miles. I think that "thrashing" for 2500 miles is significantly better than that! Oh! And by sheer coincidence it has an FY registration!!!

You'd think that as it was track tested they would hide the number plates.

My ex Skoda UK car started OY58 and the first recorded keeper was Skoda UK HQ in Milton Keynes.

I don't know how HQ go about registering the cars, whether they do it at MK or all over the place, so an 'O' plate as mentioned is likely. I was just going by what I usually see, FT & FY (generally fleet) and D & K (Skoda) - BUT not always.

Now, if the dealer would only reply to my (genuine) e-mail enquiry (why are dealers so bad at this customer service thing - do they not realise as time passes so does my level of interest?!?)...

Best thing to do is phone, not all dealers are that clued up when it comes to IT.

You can make some general assumptions at this stage about what it might have been used for, and by whom, but you'll need to see the paperwork to get some more info.

Generally, I wouldn't worry about it. It has a large portion of the warranty left for you to iron out any potential problems.

Looks a nice buy.

Mine had just 40 ('delivery') miles on it, Skoda pre-reg with a Milton Keynes plate earlier this year. Early days yet but well satisfied - so far so good.

Saying that my old astra was a hire car before I got it at 1 year old.

That was trouble free up till I got rid if it 6 years later, and we all know hired Astras are the fastest cars on the planet

My Scout is an ex-Skoda car - KJ08 XXX

It too was just under a year old with 8,000 miles on it, it's been very reliable.

It also still had pieces of the plastic seat protectors under the headrests from delivery!

Strange spec too, factory standard except the one option - xenon's.

Our Scout is ex-Skoda starting KR, and it was a really good buy. A high spec, low mileage and pretty good price, and everything on it was immaculate, looking like it had barely been used. Only had it 11 months but seems ok so far (tough wood).

If you haven't missed the boat you could get a new one with the VAT off for not much more (£18,040 I make it using my thicko maths according to the brochure), have 3 years warranty and know where it's been from day 1 and have another 8k wear and tear on your brakes tyres and everything else. then you wouldn't have to worry. Just don't ask how to run it in!!!!!!

At that price it won't have xenons, a Columbus or a sunroof, options which this car has fitted.

As mentioned in another thread recently by someone with regards to thrashing of a car, go visit the freight yards and ports that every car went through on its way to UK brand new and you will see real thrashing which arguably could have happened to every single car here.

Skoda UK cars tend do tend to be loaded with extras, my old Superb had a few nice touches which would have added a lot to the cost on a new order. The Octavia listed at the top has quiet a few as well, and given that you can no longer order a new Octavia to your specification you may not be able to get them either. If you order a new Octavia now, you'll have to pick from someone elses cancelled order or one already with a build slot since production is being run down to setup for the new Octavia MK3.

If it is a Skoda UK car it would have been someone like an Area/Finance Managers, so only one person would have driven it.

From talking to one of our managers not so long ago, when the car gets handed back, they get charged for any damage etc, and (as mentioned above) they are very thorough.
