Egr delete

Featured Replies

Got my egr delete the other day and i plan on fitting it tomorrow so i was wondering, is there any specialist tools ill need? (54 plate mk1 vrs asz engine) also, the black pipes that come from the egr (like the one that plugs onto the top) what do i do with them?

Thanks, ell.

Bloody hell, Ill put a fiver on me failing then.. i still dunno where you mean for the torx bit though, never seen any torx bits when ive looked at it?

oh yes, there was a few words said the other day, but that was just the fact the new alternator put on was a dud! and had to be sent back to ECP!

When stripping my car i had the egr valve, egr pipe to manifold and my inlet manifold off in about half an hour its not to hard. Also i have pretty big hand but longs fingers and i think that was the key for the lower bolt on the valve because as soon as i cracked it i could get my lanky finger on it to spin it out.

I got fat hands. Probably why I was swearing so much! Lol

Def not easier from the bottom m8...

Easy to do if u do it in the right order.

Easy to do if u do it in the right order.

And whats the order? Haha ;)

You need to go underneath to remove pipe from exhaust manifold and fit blanking plate, easy enough job.

And whats the order? Haha ;)

1st take the rubber vacuum pipe off (if doing a egr delete block it + put it out of the way.. then remove the L shaped sylicone intercooler pipe from the egr valve both ends so u have plently of room..

There are 3 bolts holding the egr valve/ egr delete to the intake manifold. There are also 2 6mm allen key bolts holding the egr pipe on underneath.

Leave the egr bolt thats easiest to get too on till everything else is off.. (one nearest the front of the car)..

Take the 2 6mm allen keys for the egr pipe off next using a standard 6mm L shaped allen key.

If u r fitting an egr delete then remove the pipe from the MAF sensor to the ally intake pipe using either wide mouthed adjustable pliers or a circlip removing tool..

After removing the pipe... u can see the other end of the egr pipe onto the turbo (exhaust manifold).. using a 12mm deep socket and wratchet remove the 2 bolts so u can remove the egr pipe.. wiggle the pipe out + fit the egr blank in its place onto the turbo manifold.. then tighten the 2 12mm bolts..

FAE86238-orig.jpg

Now remove the 2 harder 2 get too bolts onto the egr valve normally 5mm allen keys or 10mm bolts..

If they are 5mm allen key bolts it will be easier with a long ball ended socket/ long ball ended L shaped allen key..

If they are 10mm bolts then a 1/4 drive wratchet with a wobbly extension and 10mm socket would be best..

After taking the 2 "harder" bolts remoce the last bolt from the egr valve + remove the valve.

If replacing with an egr delete then fit the gasket + bolt on the egr valve.. put on the easier bolt 1st but not completely tight so its easier to tighten the others. Then tighten them all.

Do the same with the normal egr valve ^^ except u wont need a gasket because its rubber.. + u will have to re-fit the egr pipe (with a new gasket) after the 3 egr bolts have been put on tight and re-fit the rubber vacuum pipe.

If an egr delete then either cut the clip of the L shaped intercooler pipe or replace with a pipe without clips.. then fit to the egr delete using a circlip (supplyed with kit)

If just fitting standard egr back then clip it back together...

All done :D:);)

Awesome explanation mate, thanks! Is that for the asz engine too yeah? Cause im gonna do it tomorrow :)

Yes.. only difference for a BLT engine is the egr valve has a connector on it lol ;)

Fair point, I had my car on a pit.

well its on, the only problem with came into was the fact the old rubber IC hose the 90 degree from the plastic one. once the metal connector on the end was chopped off it doesn't slide over the delete pipe! having to order a 90 degree bend off ebay so my car is now off the road for a couple of days... :(
