ring xenon max or hids

Featured Replies

As above I've been using the ring xenon max bulbs for years now and what an improvement they are. But they only last about a year or so.I was thinking if getting some hids insted but don't want to look chavvy. Can you get a good set in the UK seen some on eBay for about 30 quid ish but I would rather have a good set.

Also what colours are there. I would really just want a bright ice xenon white non of this blue ****e.

Cheers ant

i've got some i paid literally 30 pound for the set and the guy sells a pair of replacement bulbs for £12.95. Can't go wrong IMO. i've had them in mine for a good 6 month and going strong. Mine are 4300k which are White and not blue chavvy ones :)

mine are 8k hids and looking out onto the road they just look very white. . but in windows and to other people they look blue. .

8k is the same as natural daylight. .

if ya want a oem xenon look ya want about 4300k man.

got mine off ebay. . carmodshop.com . . had em in well over a year with no troubles at all man.

Hi all,

Just for clarification, are these HID bulbs plug n play or does one need a fitting kit/transformer etc.?

Thx

Not quite.......daylight is about 5.5k

8k is always going to look blue.

literally plug and play, there is a transformer box although

i use the 30 jobbies on ebay, think pretty much everyone on the civic owners club use them as there was a group buy and have lasted them 3-4 years.

that would be correct. haha.

i would never go more than 8k . . just wouldn't look right.

Do you not need to buy the canbus xenon kits?

no dont need :)

I'd avoid any product that starts "Ring" I'm afraid - I've never found them to be decent quality.

Strangely enough my ring bulbs have been spot on.

I had some Ring bulbs in my old FIesta and they were bloody brilliant! Not sure which model they were though.

like I said before had them for years even in my classic mini. It's just they are about 20 quid a chuck so just thinking of the hids instead. Thanks for the comments.

How easy are they to put in and do you need the slim ones

there easy to do man,you may need a drill and hole cutter coz you have to drill the rear casing for the wires and a gromit. .

mine are slim balasts, makes em look neater,i just stook em into the wings :-)

Don’t forget that if you fit them in non projectors (std reflector headlights) the beam will scatter everywhere causing them to dazzle oncoming motorists, thats before you even start to consider the legalities of them.

Done correctly (projectors and 4,300K bulbs) I would say go HID’s, otherwise stick to a good halogen bulb.

the bulbs for reflector head lights are different to shop the light scatter.(h7r) . .mines got hids in reflectors and passed its mot fine. . .you can argue the self leveling headlights washing mumbojumbo allday but people will still fit hids. . and lets be honest . . what's a lil squirt of water gonna do to a dirty hot head lamp. . .and people have said the "self leveling" doesn't work properly.

You can argue the facts all you like to try and convince yourself that they are legal, do not scatter and dazzle others, it won’t change the facts though.

I have no issues in fitting 4,300K HID’s into correctly aligned projectors, but I wouldn’t dream of fitting them to reflectors, with or with our the little caps over the end of the bulbs.

Headlight washers actually do a pretty good job of cleaning the headlights - providing you have not left it long enough for all the road film to dry.

Self levelling does work if the system is working correctly.

As you have already convinced yourself that 8,000K bulbs are the best so I won’t waste any more time trying to correct you.

haha lol why so anal about it . . just mod your car and enjoy it. . .

i know ant personally, and i don't think he'll give a flying nana about the "legality" of it aslong as he don't get tugged by the law. . .

and ad i say . . mine passed an mot. . never bin pulled over or flashed by other motorists because of them. . so i think there ok. . haha

Thanks for the comments lads but I think il stop with the halogen bulbs.to many bulb or projectors to do then the drilling.

I found this on an HID website which shows colours of HID and the light intensity (lumins) of each.

As you can see 4,300k gives the best output and is what most OEM HIDs are. It is simular with Halogens, no covering on a bulb will ever produce more light than a clear one.

I like others wouldn't bother with HIDs, I'd just fit good Halogen ones.

Personally IMHO , i dont like the idea of HID in halogen style lights, they have horrible light scatter, look terrible when youre going towards them and are only technically legal when you have wipers and/or washers for your lights, but thats just me :)

Personal choice for lights would be a decent set of LED sidelights and replace the dipped and main beam with osram nightbreakers.
