Fabia VRS tuning box

Featured Replies

Ouch...

If that's all you're after, drop in a green filter. Appears to have smoothed the delivery a little, starts a little lower, revs easily up to 4.5k now if you want it.

Other benefits is that it's very easy to do, won't mess up your car, and it's not something the insurance will be impacted by (at all). As far as fuel economy goes, it may or may not make a diff, I didnt notice much of that myself :)

Must admit I'd go for PD160 intake, followed by either digital tuning box or a custom map, preferably one which can be switched back to standard.

i was wondering if any one has fitted one of the PD tuning boxes selling on ebay? i'm looking for a cheap plug type which can be removed easily. Can these devices give ecu error codes?

heres one listed - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32094&item=7975331052&rd=1

cheers

Had an analogue one one from Dragon tuning http://www.mrhoot.com/ no problems, no flashing lights, no more smoke than normal, mpg stayed roughly the same and the car went a lot quicker ....but it made it a bit of an animal...easier to drive than the standard one but still a bit violent......have now tried the digital one much better, smoother, no smoke and with a green filter......WOW ......cost? PM me and I'll tell you.

:D
Fuel economy = unaffected

Smoke = no more than usual

More BHP = i doubt it

More torque = maybe just a little

Smoothness of power delivery = much better IMHO

Agree with this to a certain extent. My fuel economy went up, car is not smokey (and passed it's MOT with tuning box on). Significantly more shove when mine is fitted (I tried taking it off to compare!). Car is much smoother, although can be a bit lumpy at idle occasionally...... No error codes on mine either, but apparently is the 04 model onwards it affects....

Best 30 quid I spent on the car ;)

get a digital dragon off ebay. i payed 200 quid for mine. well worth it

a dragon tuning box is arguably the finest finest tuning box out there bar tunit (sold by Bromleys), however the latter costs

I had a Tunit form my last fabia and swapped it over to the vrs when i first had it. Good gains but quite agressive in power delivery. they can be adjusted and set up for specific cars though. Sold it to help fund Jabba map in the end.

Tried one of the cheapo tuning boxes too and tbh it was far smoother than the tunit. Downside was it was a bit smokey and threw a cel after around 2000 miles. They arent bad though for the cash and may be good as stop gap until you get a remap etc. Economy improved if anything.

is the remap really a big difference over a tunning box? in what way? worth the cash?

The key to a remap is not the peak bhp/torque, but the ways it is delivered, either smoothly or aggressively dependant upon how it is setup, it will also pull for longer and eliminate any flat spot whilst increasing peak bhp/torque at the correct levels, a tuning box will just emphasise current peaks and troughs. A custom remap can be tailored to suit (dependant upon how good the RR man is!), but usually gives the drive that you'll inevitably want :D

Hope this helps

Seems the custom code one is very smooth, whereas the Jabba one for example gives an enormous push initially and then tails off a little quicker.

Depending on what you're after, both are an excellent & recommended choice :D

I tried a resistor mod box from mr hoot on my 2005 VRS, gave a warning light after 100 miles or so. had to get the dealer to reset it.

Got refund with no quibbles.

Then tried the digital box and its still OK after 5000 miles.

I got mine for

The engine management light is just flagged because the ECU gets confused by the fuel temperature signals and can be quickly and easily reset with VAG-COM. Fortunately for me, it's not a problem on the pre-04 cars :D

In Sweden most diesel cars who are tuned use a box from kcr.se

As you can se below the VRS goes mutch better with a box.

49,7-74,6 mph on 4th gear 6speed gearsbox (80-120km/h)

Fabia VRS with Swedish KCR-box using GPS 4.45 s

Corvette C6 404hk 4,9s

911 GT3 381hk juli 2003 5,1s

Carerra S 355hk 5,2s

BMW M3 Coup

what????????????????????

it's a 40-70 run in 4th, 5th and 6th gears to show the torque available, dont be deceived however the Carerra GT is in 5th gear and still accelerated to 70 at the same speed as a Fabia vRS, imagine if it were in 1st (can 70 mph in 1st), about 2 seconds, same for all the other cars.

Im not slagging the above off it's just that it is very much biased in favour of the Fabia vRS's torque and they do forget to mention most of the other cars listed are normally aspirated engines running at about 1,000 revs and they can still accelerate just as quick  maybe it's showing how slow a Fabia vRS is in comparison to a supercar considering they have to be 5th gear at 40 mph where there wil be virtually no power and yet they are still as quick!
