Friend of mine wants a Civic Type-R

Featured Replies

Blimey' date=' a full on discussion - was just asking to keep a look out! :D

To answer beeftech's list:

Golf/Bora 2.8V6 4motion 51/52 reg - [b']not quick enough, too heavy and a bit boring[/b]

*Beemer M3 N or P plates - He's got a Beemer at the moment and those are too old

*Scooby or Evo - Fair call, but running costs

*Have Seen Audi A8's R/S Reg for about

Think a V6 4motion would murder a CTR, by the time the Britvic had found a gear, the VR would be gone.......

Not a chance!!

The CTR is a great drivers car but not great as a day to day car. Has your friend considered a Leon Cupra R?

I have mentioned it to him Eddy, and would probably be the next choice. All depends on how he finds the drive at the weekend I think.

Steve

Civic Type R figures:

Max Speed 146mph

Standing qtr mile in 14.7 secs

30-50mph in 3rd 4.2s

30-50mph in 4th 5.4s

50-70mph in 5th 7.8s

30-70 thru' gears 6.5s

0-100 is around 16s compared to 19s for the Golf.

Mmmmm just been looking in an old autocar mag.......

here are their test figures for the rado:

top speed of 144mph

Standing Quarter: [email protected]

30-50 in 3rd 4.0sec

30-50 in 4th 6.3sec

50-70 in 5th 6.4sec

30-70 thru' gears 5.7sec

0-100 17.7sec

knew the c would be quicker than a britvic in the midrange almost a second quicker through the gears and just under 1.5s quicker in 5th!!!

it's the torque man.....all about the torque

the civic kills the c in 4th though.....must be 'cos the civic has 6 cogs....so wonder what time 50-70 in 6th would be in the honda???

Nobody's arguing with you Beeftech, but I know for sure he doesn't want a 15 year old car, no matter how quick it is :)

If you like revving the engine the TypeR is well-nice.

The Furby vRS would be totally the wrong car for this guy IMHO.

It doesnt rev high, doesn't sound that sporty (yes you can do a bit about that, but let's stay realistic). It's more about relatively effortless decent performance, and when you help it breath a little it will rev to 4.5k without grief. Remapped goes higher but again most of the time it's not worth it.

As for car A 'having' car B - you stick an Octy vRS driver into a Furby vRS and visa versa (without experience of the other car/fuel). Both would struggle to get a decent time. Different driving style.

Anything petrol you gotta keep the revs high, redline it or thereabouts, before changing up. Even more so for turbo-charged ones.

Diesel - well non-turbo (or charger) they don't like revving anyway. With turbo it's a bit better but you're basically driving 2...2.5k up to 4, perhaps 4.5k at the most (standard). Remapped you may be faster if you rev it up higher assuming a target speed that's still within toleration levels of the 70mph official limit ;)

If you're after the 'rush' then something high-revving which sounds good, shakes you about a little and holds the road well is probably a great choice.

hey latest corrado's are '96 so 8 years old :) just interesting to see how an "old" car compares with modern machinery :D

As you can guess I have one and love it to bits, so all other cars are poo in comparrison :P

How about a Vectra GSI ;) Hear they can hit 159mph under the right conditions ;)
