Don't think i'm going to like this

Featured Replies

They've given me a Prius for a hire car tomorrow. Rural roads in Dumfriesshire tomorrow then a slog up the A9 on Wednesday

Why do you think you won't like it?

Coming from a Mazda 3 I think you might be pleasantly suprised!

not a lot lot with the 3 for the roads I use - plenty of diesel grunt.

First and foremost - perception of gutlessness I suppose! I would like to be proved wrong but I (think) I will miss the torque of a diesel. Quite often have petrol hire cars and I can't say I am fond of them..

Still, it will be an experience and I reserve final judgement till after the fact.

Just keep your eyes open for the unmarked police cars and the two fixed speed cameras. There's always a camera van usually about the Ralia/ avimore area on the A9.

Thanks mate. I do the A9 ever couple of weeks or so and it just not worth horsing on. Normally use cruise control to keep speed in check but don't think this Prius has it.

There is one on the A85 gets driven like it's been stolen. Don't think the battery gets much use.

Cracking road to drive a car like its stolen' some good blasts between lochearnhead and tyndrum.

Back on subject - probably driven by someone forced to take it as a company car

Well day one and the jury is still out. Warming to the drive train. Eco mode is pretty sluggish. Normal if just fine and I must admit it has a bit of poke in power mode. Really liking being back in an , realise how much I miss my dsg and confirmed what box my own next car will have.

Mpg is good but only by a couple of mpg over my own diesel Mazda.

The bad? Ride is terrible' seats don't suit me, visibility is poor and the dash too busy

I have always fancied a go i one of these. Curiosity if nothing else. The idea of a hybrid interests me but i would imagine things could get expensive in older versions when things start to go wrong.

I have only trid a CVT box once before in an audi A4 with the 2.0 petrol engine. I quite liked the box and wouldnt have any reservations about having one on my own car. It is initially weird how the revs dont change much but this might be more intrusive in a diesel car compared to petrol.

The biggest issue i have with hybrids though seems to be the high purchase cost compared to a diesel yet the mpg is generally no better. Based on reviews rather than personal experiences mind you.

Have to say that on the second day of use - which consisted mainly of a run up the A9 I was pleasantly surprise by how relaxing this car was to drive. Stick in D, set the cruise control and that was a bout all the involvement I had really

the one thing that really bugged me was the fact that on the gear selector R was forward and D back, this is the wrong way round for my limited mental thinking and must have put the willies up the driver behind me when I went to move off again after a stop at temp traffic lights!!

MPG was reported on the OBC at 59 over 430 miles. Mazda does 3 genuine 53 (55.5 OBC) , so an improvement but probably not enough to make the economics stack up.
