Back, well sort of, and a question

Featured Replies

As an old member of the forum and an ex Yeti owner (sorry I sold it now) have a quick question.

My dad was so impressed with my Yeti he has just ordered one. Its a 1.2 tsi elegance dsg. He wanted an auto and ideally a diesel but as you all know can only get a dsg with the 1.2 or the more powerful 140 diesel. As his annual milage is low (7000 a year) he decided on the 1.2. He is coming from a 2.0 dsg Passat where he regularly gets 40mpg around town and 60 mpg on a run. So a few quick questions.... what can he expect mpg wise around town and on a run and will he notice the performance defecit from his current car ? Must add he has a light right foot most of the time.

Thanks to anyone who can help and made up to see the forum still thriving.

Conservative driver with mix of 20 mile round trips (A roads, town driving) and longer 150 round trips (A roads) and say 10-15% Motorways/Dual carriageways. Annual miles about 10K.

We get around 39-40 average with best around 42 on a smooth run with loaded boot, 1 passenger.

Same model 1.2 DSG

I changed from a 2.0 Diesel DSG Octavia to a 1.2 Tsi DSG Yeti Elegance, so a similar move to your Dad, also my mileage now is max 10k per annum. I drive a mix of urban with occasional longer motorway journeys, after 6500 miles I am averaging 41 MPG. On a weekly 20 mile 'A' road journey with a 50 MPH limit I regularly get 45+ MPG and on long motorway journeys if you keep the speed to 70 MPH I get 40 MPG, however, 70 MPH into high head winds will drive that down to 36-37 and the return with same tail wind will boost it to well over 40 MPG - which highlights the Yeti's aerodynamics!

The 1.2 is a great engine but don't pretend it has the same grunt as a 140 diesel, high speed acceleration is slower so overtaking maneuvers need a bit more thought. However, in general day-to-day driving it is superb, refined, sprightly and SO MUCH QUIETER than the 140 motor. The 7 speed DSG is a joy and I am sure that by keeping the engine revs 'on song' it both helps MPG and also performance.

After 9 months I still look forward to driving it and every trips a pleasure - well I am retired!

Similar!

Pressing on (above 60-65 mph will soon get you down to mid 30's and you run out of steam if fully loaded.

But a great little combination of engine and DSG.

Spot on, normal driving around 38-39, careful touring 42, push it about 60-65 and the mileage drops into mid 30s. Couldn't say it better.

P.S. I think using the cruise control a lot increases fuel economy - it is like having a light foot.
