Just two and a half years old and it's gone pop!

Featured Replies

Yes, that's right, artless than three years old, tonight I had a new dash light come up on the dash. Upon further inspection I realised it was referring to the fact that my drivers side fog light bulb had died tonight.

I don't think I've ever had to replace a fog light bulb in all my years of driving but having said that, I've never owned a car that uses them for many different functions (corner lighting, auto illumination when reversing etc).

As I understand it, it's an H7 bulb. I wondered of anyone could suggest if it's an easy job or not? Ie is it a job I can do tool less in my lunch break or something a little more involved? I'll probably order a set of uprated bulbs of the hell of it while I'm at it to. :-)

How big are your hands?

No tools needed.

Plenty of choice on bulbs, but as you have Xenons, they'll all look yellowish in comparison!

Good luck!

h7 ? usualy fogs lights are h3, should double check to be sure mate, usualy just a rubber cover on the underside of the fog light and once thats off should be a retaining clip, pop that off out comes the bulb disconnect the wire and the reverse to refit, that should be the case, but i've never owned a yeti, but you get the general idea

Thanks. As I was thinking of grabbing some uprated H7 Rings, Osrams or Phillips, im guessing they tend to be whiter than the standard bulbs anyway?

Yep, fogs are H7 on the Yeti.

H7 according to posts on here. :-)

I fitted the Philips X-treme vision, but there may be 'whiter' options now?

Alright guys, well goodluck with your bulb change should be easy enough

H7 Night Breakers I use in the Fabia and have been happy with them. The Fabia II headlights are normally not much better than if you were holding an old candle in a force nine :giggle:

Groping around in the dark springs to mind also

TP

Be carefull with the uprated bulbs. They dont live that long. I had one of the night breakers (H7) explode (yes really explode) in my VRS. Damaged the reflector.

It was one of the first generation night breaker H7 bulbs, had some Philips Extremes after those and these worked very well. Didnt live too long though.

Heat kills halogens pretty rapidly so can only assume that some units are worse for heat that others. I ran the same set of Philips Xtreme for 3 years across 2 cars and had a couple of years out of Osram NBPs.

If the bulb has gone that quickly, and you plan to keep your car, it might be worth considering long life bulbs. I got so fed up with changing uprated headlight bulbs (pre-Yeti) that I changed to these, and never had to change a headlight again. The light output seemed to be about the same to the eye, too.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I run Osram uprated H7 headlight bulbs in my other car and I have to agree; I dont think ive ever seen more than 18 months out of them. As the fogs on the Yeti appear easy to do I'll take a gamble and run some uprated bulbs in there. I probably use them maybe once or twice a year at most tbh - the only other times they come on are for the corner lighting so Im guessing (especially when parking up in a tight space; steering wheel, left, right, left... etc) that this is where the life of the lamp gets shortened.

Thanks for the advice on fitment. :)

One last thing - externally, the fog is in the same housing as the DRL lamp. Im presuming that there is one access hole at the back of the unit and the fog and DRL are equally accessible through it? As Ive been meaning to do the LED DRL upgrade it seems to make sense to tackle both together?

Is its like the Superb, there will be two separate lamp holders - just twist and pull to remove.

1 cap > 2 bulb holders; good time to do the LED DRL upgrade?

Yeti man, the original night breakers were not that long lasting but the new plus version is much more reliable.

Mine have been in for 2 1/2 years and still going strong.

Now that's tempting fate isn't it!

Runs to touch the wooden bannister....

Thats great guys. I'll get the LED DRL bulbs ordered up and do them along with some Night Breaker fog bulbs. Thanks :)

Runs to touch the wooden bannister....

... but can you manage it in under four minutes?

Good question!

I might have to resort to touching my bonce.
