Fabia VRS Estate, daily drive. The car that won't be modified...

Featured Replies

You are quite nuts and very hard to keep up on what cars you own?

By my count you have had 2 mk2 fabia greenlines, 2 yetis, 1 mk1 se vrs, 2 city go's, Grey and a yellow Datsuns?? Am sure there was more?

Business must be doing well, I see the Woman with many chins nearly every moring.

edit: I seriously doubt you not gonna modify this one too, maybe some more lunchbreaks at Jabba?

  • This forum makes me out to be some kind of Skoda modding Junkie. :(

  • Hang on, I haven't had an Octavia or a Superb yet! I'm going to drive it around to keep the milage down on the Yeti and see how good these mkII Fabia VRS's are. I plan NOT to modify!

  • Are you trying to collect every Skoda model? What are your plans for this one?

Only 1 Fabia Greenline, but 3 Yetis. If you include my wife's car. That's if you only go back two years.

There is a 1934 Morris 10/4 in there somewhere too. But I've hidden that in my Mum's garage. So I'm not sure it counts.

I think you've got me figured out, I have a problem... :(

I didn't plan to modify, but I'd like to make a few small changes here and there over a bit of time.

So the plan lasted about eight hours. It was posted in the Fabia mkII section, but I thought it's easier for me to find and update.

Mind you, it' not going to be anything too crazy as it's my daily drive.

No can do on Prept unfortunately, I'm a bit snowed under with work and home commitments right now.

That's fair enough. Gotta make it up to your wife for buying a new car :-p it will be a stunning car once you've had your way with it

Richard, Do you not have enough cars already :p

Looks good, actually had a go in a colleagues Mk2 fabia hatchback today, first time ive driven one, WAY too easy to drive :D

Nissan Leaf ? :D

please no.

Although you have spent a few quid on cars but you don't seem to have had any BMW, Merc's, Audi's (other than a broken TT) or sports cars.

So where you will go to next is actually hard to guess.

I think you got a thing for q cars now.

I'm gonna go with volvo ;)

Just to get the ball rolling..

So....what's been modded already?

I thought the Citi-go would be your last one for this year :)

I too wish I had gone for Blue with black wheels but still love my vRS Estate, when its clean!

It is easy to drive, fun too once you've learnt what it can and can't do!

I just wish it sounded a bit, well, louder.

I knew on Monday that Richard had bought this but didn't realise there was going to be a thread for it. Nothing surprises me though :D

As for the 'Leaf', this has also been discussed, along with the Ampera that was branded as pants (or words to that effect) and ludicrously expensive, so come on Skoda give us an electric car and you might have your first order

Yes, my life plans for long term financial security took a leave of absence in 2012, income went on cars instead of investments for a year...

It's been a car mad year, but next year I'll be calming down and be back on track.

Well, I am 37. Best to do it while you still can. :D

The reason I got this was specifically because it didn't have the black pack.

This blends in a little bit more and looks nice with the blue and the bright wheels/lights.

I did ask Lee at Preston Motors, but all VRS Fabias get the black pack as standard now.

So although the deal was tempting on a white one with black wheels it put me off.

The black pack is nice, but it's not what I prefer.

On the positive side this was a good price. Must have cost over £15k new.

At least if I end up doing 20k miles in a year (like I did in my Greenline Fabia) it can't loose too much money and I'll still be in warranty.

White ones with black lights look like pandas so i'm happy being chrome :)

You got a stonking deal considering its 18 months old! My dealer sold a 10 plate vRS hatch for £12k last week and a 12 plate vRS hatch for £14k so lucky you!

The VAT free deal was on 60 and 11 plates iirc? I can't imagine paying £18.5k for mine with the options new!

Very nice :) be interesting to see if you any issues with engine problems or oil consumption (even tho its already run in) as that's what still puts me off having one :(

Ps is it just me or am I the only one who likes the green in these?

Nearly a week on... 400 miles.

My thoughts on the mkII Fabia VRS so far.

Likes.

Styling in estate form.

Easy to drive for commuting due to auto.

Fuel economy for the performance.

Big boot.

Dislikes.

It doesn't feel fast.

Heating controls are cheap, should have climatronic.

Flappy paddles feel very cheap.

Seating position doesn't adjust low enough, you feel too tall.

Lack of Xenon lights.

I was planning to use this more, with a view to letting the Yeti go.

But I prefer driving the Yeti, it's much better equipped, comfortable and even feels quicker to me due to the torque of the diesel. Even though it's not.

So I've decided to sell this Fabia.

It's very capable. But too refined.

Just doesn't have the wow factor or feel quick like my mkI did when I got it even though it's technically better in many ways.

Can't say I'm surprised Richard.

Must be one of your most expensive test drives?

Seems you know me well Sam...

Cheapest. I negotiated a good price. :)

lol. That was a whirlwind romance.

Cant say i blame you for selling on. It definitely needs some hefty modifications to feel decent and exciting IMO. In the last 7 years I have had 5 brand new hot hatches, and this is the only one that i wouldn't recommend anyone to buy.

lol you do get through them

but you work hard so you can play hard ;-)

let not forget to add all the coaches and minibushes he has lol

you could do your own car club meet

Clive, that would be incredibly boring.

It's the business that has completely screwed up any pleasure I used to get out of getting a new car.

I don't discuss it here, because I don't like blowing my own trumpet, but when you've spent 12 years buying something like 300 odd vehicles (many have since got old and been replaced) any excitement goes right out of the window.

It's just something you have to do.

Unfortunately it's effected my own buying patterns, where there is hardly anything out there that actually excites me.

Probably explains the Citigo project. :D

Never a dull moment!!

So what will be replacing it?

I know what you mean about it not feeling quick and being too refined.

In a MK1 vRS or anything else similar (like my car) it is a bit of a challange sometimes to get it right.

Sometimes I know that I have the power there etc but also know that just flooring it, due to the big lump of torque will likely just result in a nice wheel spin and flashy light on the dash.

It's much easier in the MK2 to just give the throttle a prod and go without having to think about it too much.

It's technically faster than the MK1 but how often does a 0-60 time or slightly higher top speed count. With the traffic etc these days you can't drive fast... so as long as it feels fast is what matters. Plus even in a MK1 a quick prod of the throttle and you're going faster than most other drivers anyway.

Phil

Already! At least it didn't get modded :-) hope you don't lose too much on it

Agree with the hearing controls - climatronic needs to be added for looks.

Doesn't feel fast all the time as its quite lazy to drive, engaging and fast when in the mood! Suits every day life I'd say.

Flappy paddles cheap? Plastic or what? Confused as same in the polo and octy vrs dsg...

Shame to see you sell it, had mine for 18 months now and love it. I was hoping you'd mod it :)

Is this now for sale at Preston Motors??
