Skoda Rapid 130

Featured Replies

does anyone own one? Or have they owned one? I hoping to go have a look at one at the weekend as a project/hobby car it sems soundish but just after some tips if anyone has any.

Thanks

Mike

My uncle had a new one when they came out.

Things I remember?

Front end seemed very high with no luggage, he had a few problems with engine electrics, funky dashboard, variable intermittant wipers (A first back then) and you needed to be nimble to get in the back.

Oh and racing a 1256cc Chevette and loosing. :)

Cheers

Lee

Knew someone with one and they had to keep a sack of potatoes in the front to keep it on the ground above 50mph and I think they may have also had problems with the bonnet catch. :D

With a near 50/50 weight distribution why would you need to put a sack of spuds or anything else in the front? and remember Skoda won thier WRC class for something like 17 times. name another car with that much racing heritage. cant think of anything better to start with, passed my test in a skoda 130lse. but i would get the later 8 port engine from a felicia (or 136) to replace the old 5 port one. by the way, i have just prchased a 130LR today for less than a grand. its in very good condition comes with 3 sets of wheels (minilites) twin choke side draught webber, infact already to go forest rallying.

what more could anyone want.

:mad: :thumbdwn:  Git I want one :P

I owned a brand new Rapid Coupe in 1990. I can remember going all the way from Matlock to watch a rally on Epynt the first month I owned it. Did there and back in the day and it was a hoot. Rolled it on its side 3 months later - driving with an injured hand, missed the gear and ended up going into a corner in neutral. Thats the truth

Still got a Haynes manual if anyone wants it.

EEeeeermmm! If hes selling the Rapid (re Lummox), why is he showing the red car when the rapide is the black car?????

Looks good matey  I've been given the ok (from SWSBO) to buy a Track day car in the new year :D so it will either be a Mini or one of these.

Shame it's for sale at the wrong time ay

620quid!!! bargain eh?

Sweet, I've always wanted one of those.

Not the orange thing, the black coupe version parked next to it in the photos! Skoda's 911. :D

yeh get one mate, estelle or rapid, get stuck in, they're excellent.

If your gonna have a classic Skoda, then... this is the one. Skoda 130 RS

Quite fancy an older RWD. Quite often see 1.4 MPi lumps come up and could stick one in for a bit of reliability etc.

Hmm next project maybe?

yeah injection would obviously give that first start always reliability, though carburettor engines aren't unreliable, but its extremely hard to install an injection engine i.e from a felicia or fabia, trust me

in response to the 130RS post...its hard enough to find a standard 110R, let alone one thats been modded to look like an RS, and for a genuine one you better save some dollar and take a trip to a czech museam

I'm talking in my dream garage obviously... along with my RS200 Evo, Ferrari 250 gto, Aston DB5, Porsche 356 Speedster etc...

of course :)

though i'm still wondering about someones post up above about buying a 130LR

I seem to remember when they did a test of the 130 rapid convertable on Top Gear, I think it was Chris Goffey, they really liked it, especially the Heated rear window switch. It had a plastic rear window though

The bottom of mine used to ground on speed bumps. The worst was when the spare wheel fell off and was left in the road. I stored the spare in the front after that. Sorted out the front going light too - which was a bonus! Watch the windows don't fall into the doors too.

the spare wheel is meant to be stored in the front though, underneath. where did it fall from?

did you have it excessively lowered, i have 35mm lowering spax on mine and its never grounded.

Rover 1.4 mpi engine blows headgaskets as regular as clockwork, better off fitting the 1.3 8 port from the favourite instead of the old 5 port.

I would be interested the know what the difficulties would be. I would imagine you would need to make a hole in the gearbox for the crank sensor to pick up off the flywheel and obviously get around the engine immobilizer (not to tricky). Anything else?

Whats a Rover engine got to do with anything? The Skoda MPi is fine head gasket wise once the modified Temac gasket is fitted and the bolts are torqued down correctly. Out of the range the 1.4 MPi is about the most reliable one there is. Do very little on them other than servicing and the odd thremostat housing.

yeh thats right, thats quite hard making that hole in the bell housing, plus its a pretty rare gearbox now. we've installed a favorit single point in a rapid and its not great.

you would also need all the wiring, ecu etc, and an electric fuel pump, the inlet and exhaust manifold would have all the stuff you need on them but will be at the wrong angle as the rear mounted engines are 30degrees inclined, rather than 15 in the front engine cars. make up your own exhaust.

i think it'd be far better to read the crank from the crank pulley on the front of the engine rather than the flywheel, would make a far nicer job, might need to make your own pulley though

Seeing as I bought my 11.000 mile Felicia for
