Air filter relocation

Featured Replies

Just an idea

I was weighing up getting some big silicone hose instead of a pd160 intake

Then i thought, why not get a aftermarket air filter

Then i thought i could completely re locate the air filter down to where the off side fog light is so it gets air forced at it. I dont have fogs any more Can just see intercooler pipes there as ive taken away my blanking plates

Would this be a massive disadvantage in anyway?

Not only having an after market air filter on, but re locating it to where the fogs used to be and re routing the pipe work...

You'll run the risk of sucking up water during a flood with the air intake so low to the ground just like two of my friends have done in the past.

Also may be a bit of a pain threading a pipe down there and if using silicone will be cheaper to get the tried and tested PD160 intake pipe from Darkside Developments for £65. The standard intake is in a good position in the first place imo and capable of supporting big power :)

Piping be to long i think as our intake is at the rear of the car. Cars with intakes/turbo at the front normally run is like you said as there isnt much piping still. Shorter distance the air has to travel the better as it will loose pressure in the long pipe and multiple bends.

£65 for the pd160 from darkside is not including VAT or delivery, most seen to forget.

If you flood the engine with a filter there you are a fool!

Carbonios on the 1.8t sit there! I had one and my car was slammed and live in rainy scotland and had zero issues

£65 + vat + delivery is still a rediculous amount for what it is most seem to forget...

Especially when a bigger piece of ducting/ piping can be bought for sub £10...

I wouldn't advise putting your filter at either fog light holes bit surely it would be ALOT easier on the passenger side!!??.. why would u consider the drivers over the passengers??

I'm further north than you............and you've obviously not had to drive through 100m stretchs of water that is up to the sills (on a standard car) and over......

Don't move the air filter intake down.......

If you do and you flood the engine the insurance lot won't pay as you have modified the air intake to a lower than standard position!!!!

might be a bit late but go on youtube and look for "mighty car mods" theyre a car tuning show (basically two ozzy lads) but its funny and surprisingly insightful anyway i digress... they mythbust car mods like cold air intakes and electric turbos. check it out to see if you see any point movin your airfilter... i wouldnt

I love Mighty Car Mods, been watching them since season 1. Great YouTube channel!

the filter is before the turbo

I cannot be 100% sure but on the fabia i am fairly sure there is NO room for any kind of pipework to come up from the nearside like it does on the octavia / golf. Trying to pipe from the offside right round to come in from the traditional route would be a pain and I doubt there is any direct way to the turbo from the nearside as the cambelt is on that side of the engine, plus water bottle / fuel filter / boost pipework, etc.

the filter is before the turbo

I didnt meen the order :S . I meant the manifold and turbo etc is at the front of the car on some like a mk1 focus rs and not at the rear of the bay like ours.

Well I have done this to my pd160 Ibiza Cupra and fitted a bigger cold air intake done it more for looks than anything else but it gives u an idea if your wanting to do it

I was referring to the pressure drop comment

Ok pressure was the wrong wording maybe, but an air filter with over a meters worth of pipe and multible bends before it gets to the turbo will loose alot of air flow.

wouldnt run the air filter down near the fog light. my mate lewis in his supercharged civic done that...bang...£3000 later its back on the road lol
