Will Columbus stereo work in my vrs

Featured Replies

I have a 56 plate octavia vrs without maxidot and thinkin of swapping my stream mp3 for a columbus . Will this work ok ? I also have the factory reversing sensors which displays on the stream .

Yes it will fit

You may need a gateway depending on what columbus you get

You will need a new fascia trim

PDC won't display

I did exactly the same on my '07 estate (no Maxidot) &, as Eddie says, it will work, you will probably need a new gateway to stop battery drain, will need a new fascia & you can get PDC to work (OPS) if you really want the faff and cost (there's a thread on here from someone who has done it, but its a lot if work).

Get the code for your Stream before you take it out (dealer will do it for around £25) and then sell it on. If its a Stream MP3 you should get around £60 inc code.

I am thinking of upgrading my stream mp3 to a Columbs as you can get them pre programmed to prevent battery drain.

Where can i get a replacement fascia for it???

KB, if you have to disconnect your battery or remove the Columbus, does the stereo need you to enter the code again?

Dealer - mine was only around £7 from DMK IIRC

No. The code is stored in one if the car's modules and remembers it even with the battery disconnected.

Do it! I did.

It's not the Columbus that is programmed to avoid battery drain (unless you are referring to modified firmware that is available) but the CAN gateway that needs to be minimum of revision 'L' (IIRC).

My standard black one also cost less than £7 from my main dealer.

Carbon effect, silver & metal ones are available (depending upon which HVAC controls you have) and range up to c.£80.........

This is the ebay add and it appears its the firmware they update to prevent issues.

Seems a better buy to get a Columbus as had planned to get a bolero. With the bolero would need a new Can and Dension kit which is another £150 on top of probably £170 for the bolero....

Columbus looks far sexier as well and has built in mdi so just need the lead to connect my iphone. I am assuming my parrot kit should plug straight in the back.

Built in MDI?

Built in SD card reader more like!

To plug an iPhone in to a Columbus (or any Skoda HU) you will need a wiring loom, MDI controller and then a cable for the iPhone.

There are some for sale on this forum.

Doh,

Blonde moment by me there....

Yes have seen the kits and will get the glovebox one

hmm, when I removed mine it forgot the code but remembered the stations. Very odd

You do NOT need to change the gateway to prevent battery drain.

They can be soft coded to get round the issue (and they play dvds whilst moving) like the one linked to on ebay.

I've had mine for ages now with no drain issue on an 06 plate VRS

Yep seems to make more sense than getting a bolero and forking out for the new CAN etc

That looks great as the battery drain/CAN issue has put me off upgrading, I wouldn't mind forking out a bit more for a Columbus but annoyingly I can't find the trim to fit my car as it's a VRS without climate control which seems unusual - I can't find a pre-FL Columbus trim in silver that fits round the standard cooling controls :(

John

There isn't a pre-FL, manual air con control fascia in silver. That's why.

Buy a Skoda one from the dealer in black for under a fiver and spray / wrap it might be the only solution.

I stand corrected. Thanks Mike: might have to get me one of those then.

Bet it costs a lot more than the black plastic one and a can of spray paint!

probably, I think I was quoted £4 for the elegance black or £20+ for the silver
