No dash lights sometimes and no start

Had the car churning on the starter and slow to start recently several times. Sometimes starts first turn of the starter motor. 2001 Fabia 1.4.

Today I have had no dash lights at all on turning the key several times although it does turn over the starter fine. Doesn't start though! Then it sorted itself, dash lights on and started fine. I had thought that the immobilizer had been not always registering the key (VCDS confirms intermittent immobiliser block) but now wonder if there is a problem with the electrical part of the ignition switch. Faults the same one or connected.

Anyone had this or similar and what was it?
