Activating cornering fogs & coming home lights?

  • there is no "cornering fogs" on maxidot, even if enabled. its purely a vcds thing. CH/LH on maxidot = yes. i've got my CH/LH using the fogs, not the low beams (by default). on a my11 vrs.......

  • 2) Some dealers struggle to activate them using their diagnostics system, I don't think theirs is as comprehensive as VCDS. Good luck!

To fit the auto switch you need a couple of extra wires to the switch and ccm.

I'm going to compare the wiring between the two cars to check whether I need to add anything.

Good plan.

I think it's normally at least one that goes to a pin on the CCM. You never know it might be there.

Mines a 2007 elegance and CH and cornering fogs work

And I don't have auto lights

In which case I wonder if my MY2011 4x4 would also be able to have CH and cornering fogs working? I'm assuming that your CH lights work during the day, given that you don't, I assume, have the light sensor switch installed?

I'm reluctant to start messing about with switches/wires, given I've still got a year to run under warranty, but would like both CH and corner fogs activated; I can live without the auto lights coming on in tunnels etc. and am not too bothered if the CH function activates both day and night.

I only activated it for a short time, but I believe they should still work as my puddle lights only come on when it's dark

3. If you have puddle lights, then you have the light sensor, and having puddle lights means you have the CH/LH sensing whether it is dark, and not on all the time.

I've seen this before but never really have it much thought. By 'puddle lights' do you mean the ones in the doors that shine red light towards the rear of the car and white light down to the floor?

If so, I have these factory fitted, but no sign of any light sensor (I have CH lights activated but not LH).

Have I missed a trick somewhere?

Puddle lights are underneath the mirrors outside the car.

Puddle lights are underneath the mirrors outside the car.

Thanks. That makes sense in respect of LH lights.

I've never seen a car with that trick though!

The term 'puddle lights' on the Octavia can be confusing as most models have the half clear / half red puddle lights on the inside of the doors.

It's the external ones that are in the base of the wing mirrors that only tend to be fitted to the higher spec models.

I have had the ch/lh lights activated on my MY2010 vrs which has no light sensor & haven't been able to get them to work which is a pain now that my shift have changed & i finish at 3am. I have managed to lay my hands on a sensor mind you but i don't fancy changing the screen just to fit this so on hold for a stone chip/crack to happen. Bound to happen once the gritters make an appearance

Seems that for the FL cars you need the light sensor fitted, in order for CH/LH to function.

Consensus is that with the controller changes made on the FL, there is a logic check somewhere along the line, that prevents CH/LH if the light sensor isn't there to tell them only to fire up if it's dark and therefore required.

If you have the Rain (and therefore light sensor?) but not an auto light switch would they still use the light sensor you reckon?

Oh and that is relating to pre face lift.

Absolutely, yes they do. Both my Elegance spec Octys have CH/LH active, both have the auto wipers/rain/light sensor but neither has auto lights.

Mike

Brilliant.

Just what I wanted to hear.

Many Thanks

Yep, same with mine Phil. I'm in the same boat as Mike.

My Elegance has the rain/light sensor as std, for auto wipers. But I don't have auto lights (nor do I want them really) and CH/LH only fire when it's dark. As mentioned previously, it also uses this to set the puddle door mirror lights when necessary.

Didn't know you were changing to an Octy! Have fun with it, you won't regret it :)

Cool. That's good new then.

I am thinking of fitting a tunnel light switch at some point if I can work out which extra wires need to go where.

Cordoba ownership has not been plain sailing the past few months and it's all just come to a head after the broken seat, broken A/C, intermittent drivers door electrics, interior fan noise and the gazillion rattles in the car... driving us insane!

We are picking up the new car on Thursday. It is as per my sig. I've started a thread somewhere with a picture of it (it's a dealer photo so not the best!)

Really looking forward to it! DSG!

  • 1 month later...

can you have CH and LH lights on a blackline? there is no option in maxidot for this

Yes, but you need to have it activated by VCDS. Once it's been activated, the maxidot menu will appear, and will allow you to switch them on or off, and alter the time they remain lit from there.

Until it is activated, the menu option won't be there.

Mike

Thanks mate.

The blackline not having auto lights or light sensor (i don't think!) would the light switch need to be ON at all times for it to work ?

Didn't think CH/LH worked with the FLs without a light sensor??

Pretty sure I've tried to activate it for people before. Think the coding accepts but they refuse to work. Must be to do with controller updates, that it needs to receive information from the light sensor, on whether to turn CH/LH on or not.

I tried setting these with VCDS on my 59 FL VRS that doesn't have the light sensor, and it looked like neither CH nor LH worked.

However, if you flash the main beam just before you get out of the car, the mains will act as CH lights.

I couldn't find a way of activating the LH lights.

As I thought. Yes, the main beam flash is certainly a workaround but not as nice as having it coded properly.

Can't see any way around it on the FLs, without retrofitting the light sensor.

thanks for clearing this up guys

only problem with cornering fog lights, people come up to you and tell you that you have a light out....... :wall:

Sounds like this VCDS can do amazing things!!! wgere could a man get his hands on it or what do you need to operate it???
