Activating cornering fogs & coming home lights?

Featured Replies

Evening all,

Can the above be activated on a 56 plate vrs or is it to old?

If so, are there any vcds owners in birmingham/solihull willing to do it for a drink?

Cheers.

  • there is no "cornering fogs" on maxidot, even if enabled. its purely a vcds thing. CH/LH on maxidot = yes. i've got my CH/LH using the fogs, not the low beams (by default). on a my11 vrs.......

  • 2) Some dealers struggle to activate them using their diagnostics system, I don't think theirs is as comprehensive as VCDS. Good luck!

Do you have Maxidot?

I think the coming/leaving home option can be turned on/off here.

The cornering fogs is a VCDS job.

I had a friendly fellow member turn them on on my 2007 (57) vRS, they are great on my dark country lane commute!

Ye iv got maxidot, will have a look in the morning. Presume it will be in the light & vision section on dot?

Cheers for the reply.

I don't know too much about this, but I believe that even with maxidot it needs to be enabled as an option with VCDS if you don't have auto lights, etc. een then, if you have no rain/light sensor then you need to set it to manual rather than auto - or something......

Just be aware that if you don't have auto lights/dimming mirror combo then the lights will come on in the day. if you don't have AL/DM then you will also need to enable via VCDS.

I have a 2012 Octavia Elegance with cornering xenons and Maxidot. The dealer told me it wasn't possible to turn on the cornering fog lights on my car.

Is that really true? I see so many skodas with cornering fogs.

I have AFS xenons. Enabled my cornering fogs with vcds.

As Silver says above, I activated his cornering fogs for him, and yes it is a VCDS job. It does not even show up as an option in maxidot to switch on and off when it is activated in VCDS. It's around the 07 plate age where activation is possible.

On a personal note, I activated the cornering fogs I my 08 plate Elegance, but have since switched them off as I didn't see any benefit from them.

Coming home/leaving home lights can be activated on any age of Octy 2, and if you have maxidot it can be switched on and the timings altered from there. If you don't have maxidot, the settings can be made through VCDS.

Iv flicked through my maxidot but can't seem to find any settings relating to coming/leaving home lights. Is there a specific name for them within maxidot?

Cornering fogs can be switched on with VCDS on Octavia's from about '09 onwards. I can;t find how to do it in anything earlier than that at the moment.

CHL are rather crude (in that they work whether it is dark or light) if you don't have auto lights. Still, they are useful when it is dark and you just need to remember to switch them off during daylight hours.

'57 plate working fine, IIRC all Gizmo did was tick the box in VCDS.

Will depends on the version of CECM (Central Electrics Control Module) for cornering foglight activation. As it's a 56-plate and therefore (hopefully) an MY07 variant, you should be OK. Never tried it on my earlier car as I'm not sure what benefit it would bring.

On CH/LH setup, as Mike says, for earlier cars it has to be activated in VCDS first, before it'll appear in the Maxidot menu.

Think I need to look again then, as all the evidence points to me being able to do it on an '07 plate.

Although its not a Vrs!

Cheers for the replies guys.

Anyone from birmingham/solihull with VCDS that would help me out for a little drink?

Probably a silly question but what exactly do the cornering fogs do?

With dipped headlights on when you turn the steering wheel or indicate at speeds below 30mph ish the corresponding fog light lights up to help illuminate the kerb/hedgerow/signpost etc. and then fades out when the wheel is straightened or the indicator is cancelled.

I can vouch that on a 2006MY the CECM needs to be upgraded.
