Heated Mirrors.

Featured Replies

Ok...the control for heating the mirrors is to push forward the knob on the door for adjusting the position of the mirrors. I have done this but couldn't see any evidence that the function was working. Is there some additional function that must be simultaneously engaged? I did have the rear window defrost on at the same time. Would this be necessary? Also, surely it is not necessary to keep the knob physically pushed forward until defrost is complete!

I did look at the manual some days ago, and don't recall any detailed instructions..it's not to hand just now.

No, seems like previous Skoda's. Simply turn the knob to the heater symbol - nothing else to do!

My L&K had the other lovely option in that if you left it on the n/s mirror, putting the car into reverse tilted the mirror down to a position you previously selected - mine was down to the kerb so as not to crunch the wheel rims and tyres. The Citigo ain't got that provision though!

The handbook is misleading and it appears that the knob should be pushed forward but it actually needs turning to the forward position. It feels a bit stif but just turn it and it will go. The heated rear window does not need to be turned on. This is where it makes the lack of door control illumination become more of a pain D you can't see what position the knob is in so which way to turn it. I tend to leave my mirror control in a set position so that I know which way to turn it by feel. Had thought about putting a luminous dot on it.

Oh now that was a nice feature! I would like that.

Ah! Simple when you know how. That was my problem. I formed the impression that the knob had to be pushed forward. Thanks :)

I only found that function around a month ago, had the car nearly 3 months :giggle:

So did I lol. It was when I got I'm my wife's Yeti and it had been left in the heating position - it suddenly twigged. When I thanked her for pointing me on the right direction - she was confused and it turns out that hers had been switched on for some time but she hadn't realised until I mentioned it. This was after I read my manual and had also been pushing instead of turning the switch.

Me too when I first got the Yeti. :D

I spun it round once and thought I'd broken it, until the mirrors warmed up!

I had a problem with this too, the handbook is wrong.

Thanks for the info.

Tried it this morning. Works :) Forum rules ok!

Is it OK to leave the mirror switch in this position or do you have to keep turning it round each morning??

Dave

To be honest I am not so was going to try it tomorrow. The mirrors get quite warm so it will be easy to tell. I am hoping that it will switch off automatically the same as the rear window but without a light or an icon and next to no info in the handbook it will be a trial and error experiment. If it has to be turned off it will be a very occasional thing as I will hardly ever remember.

I think it's ok to leave it on all the time. Mine's an ex-Dem and i've had it since July, I only realised a few weeks ago that it's always had the heated mirrors on! They still work.

I expect there's a cut off after a few minutes.

Most (if not all) makes automatically turn off after about 10 mins to save battery drain and because they are linked to the heated rear screen. Usually this is noted in the owners manual. The Citigo manual refers to them only operating when the engine is running. However, the manual also says the same for the heated rear window, but that the screen does shut off after 10 minutes.

Needs some field research guys and gals, but don't burn your fingers!! :-(

For me I have always turned the heated mirrors off once they have cleared. I have done that on my previous two Skoda's as well.

Finally remembered to try it. If you don't switch the heated mirrors off they stay on. There is no auto cut off like on the heated rear screen.

Well done Crista! You have resolved a query that I, and I am sure many others have wondered about for years! I would assume that principle of a simple on-off switch has always applied to Skoda's.

Aye but I just know I will keep forgetting it.

Exactly

Not the best design, should have made them work with the HRW

I think Skoda probably have a reason for this design feature. I really cannot believe it is an oversight. As all Skoda's I have owned had the same, perhaps in Czechoslavakia temperatures are lower and owners leave them all all winter. Thoughts anybody?

Whatever the reason it's been this way for 10 years or more on Skodas. Previously I've just left them switched on permanently and it never did them any harm.

Ditto.

If they're not designed to be left on all the time, there would be a timer on them, or the "heat" position would be a momentary switch (with timer).

But they don't need to be on all the time and its not compatible with emissions policy. Leave them on all time - more drain on battery so higher emissions. No I think it's cost saving. All over the car there is evidence of cost saving - although it is a good little car. Thing is - is it cost saving? or maximisation of profit?

How come more cars are not fitted with heated front windscreens? All cars have heated rear windows, but is it only Ford who have heated fronts?

It must be great to have them on cold frosty mornings, but then again, when its frosty i just get the bus or stay in bed!!

You can get a heated front screen on the Yeti.

You can get a heated front screen on the Yeti.

I have this as it's a diesel.

Can't say I miss it on the Citigo, it warms up so quickly the screen clears from the heater in a couple of minutes.

One of the advantages of a petrol. :)
