How long should a clutch last?

The answer is that it very much depends on how the car is driven, the same applies to a DMF.

What model / engine is fitted to your Octavia?

If you use a lot of low down pull from the engine, i.e low RPM / high gear this loads the DPF and can result in it wearing faster.

The age isn't really an issue, mileage will have more of an effect. At almost 90,000 a DMF that has been loaded regularly can begin to show signs of wear.

The DMF on my 5 year old vRS (60,000 miles) is starting to get noisey and judders if I use the engines torque to pull me round and out of corners. I've learnt to drop a gear instead.

mines juddering a bit at low revs and its only on 52k. I'm hoping it will last a good while longer yet!

90k isn't awful, depending on how it's driven.

If you drive with the DMF in mind, you can get a lot more than that.

What suggests to you that it's the DMF and not perhaps the brake fluid that drives the clutch, an engine mount or maybe gearbox oil or similar?

If it's a you're getting noises, there is an inspection hole or you can take the starter out to check it without taking the whole box off.

If it's dead at the garage, then fair enough and you'll find that there is a good discount applied when you get a kit that contains the clutch and the flywheel, rather than buying them as two items.

Try getting the brake fluid changed (genuine VAG stuff) and having the clutch bled too.

The VAG bit only applies due to the clutch bleeding bit.

My old A6 Avant had the clutch & DMF changed under warranty just after I bought it at 49k.

I had my DMF changed under warranty to a SMF at 35K

The clutch went on my 2003 1.9TDI A4 while I was 130 miles away from home - that was a fun journey home :p

But it went at 128k miles - not bad at all!
