  • Easily see 40 mpg. Unless you use sport mode at every roundabout like I do lol It'll do less in traffic but expect an average of 38-42 on tht sort of run.

How the hell do you guys get this kind of MPG return. I don't have a particularly heavy foot.... ( only on occasions ) and I'm getting 25MPG (30 MPG Best average). The only thing I have mine poor ret

  • I don't know either. Two possibilities. I either drive in a fuel consuming way or car is faulty/not loosened up yet. However, Semka above drove one with almost the same mileage and was getting 40mpg.

I am indeed! I thought I recognised your username from a forum

Aha :)

Probably seen mine on SeatCupra.net and Edition38.

How you finding the green machine?

Bit off topic, but did you buy it in Kent?

Seatcupra.net is where I recognise you from! I had a 1.2 mk4 then a 1.9tdi mk4 FR.

The Fabia has been great so far. The weather has been poor so not had much of a chance to 'drive' it yet. Its a nice commuter though. Not had to top oil up in 800 miles, but only checked it once.

Bought from Caffyns in Tunbridge Wells

Thought you did - I recognised the car as my mate bought the Black 12 plate vRS that was sitting next to it!

I got mine from Caffyns T.Wells too, used them for 8 years or more now!

Its so easy to drive, fun when you need it.

Haha, have to say I didn't even give the black one a second glance. Bit worried I only have a years warranty left on it, but can always trade in for another if things go tits up!

Or buy extra warranty? You have to buy it before the current one expires to get manufacturers warranty instead of used warranty.

I'm stunned by some of the claims on here I did a 300+ mile trip last weekend, on wet roads mostly so didnt hammer it the MFD recorded 35.9mpg I had it (D) drive with just two adults in it

The best ive seen so far in 3000 miles is 38mpg

it will get better with miles, assuming you want to drive with economy in mind.... here is a pic of mine after a drive to work.... one of my better efforts...

Same here Rich, 38mpg tops!

How long does it take before the engine has bedded in? Untill you can achieve maximum mpg engine wise.

10k miles according to my salesman. He runs one every 6 months as company/demo car.

It can be done on low mileage cars too...

Mine around October last year.

Just admit it, you were towing it!

sorry for this ot but how did you manage to get km/h on the speedo 2 in the maxidot? Ive only found the option to turn it on, but then its in mph

Because you are in Sweden and your main dial is in kph :)

yes, here in the UK its main speedo MPH, and we also have to have kph shown (legally) some people change it with VAGCOM to the Australian setting so they have a big MPH shown in digital on the maxidot....

maybe you can change the settings in sweden too with a laptop :)

So, on an approx 200km day-trip today at an average 67kmh (100-110kmh for about half the distance) with 2x 70-75kg adults and a 20kg child, the fuel usage was 6.8L/100km. I think that's about 42mpg.

A bit average, I think*, even given the route was a bit hilly, and there was some high-speed overtaking here and there. Oh, the a/c was on fan level 2 most of the way as the temp ranged from 28 to 36 Celsius, and I probably didn't engine brake and/or take the foot off the accelerator to coast downhill as much as I might have, but it was in D mode for 99% of the way.

On the same route, I'd have been getting low to mid 7's in my old 2L 4-speed auto Focus, which was rated at 8.2L/100km by the government testers, versus the 6.2 of the VRS. It's clear these cars perform especially well on the economy tests compared to the real world.

I would expect it to improve significantly with a single driver driving like a nun on a flat stretch, however, leaving the Focus far behind. I think it could even get near 5L/100km in those circumstances. I've seen low 6's on the VRS when I've gone cruising mostly deserted freeways in the evening, even with a few "bursts".

* Not a complaint, really, more an observation - I didn't buy this car for the fuel economy.

The problem comparing the MK1 vRS to the MK2 vRS (as everybody does) is diesel and petrol. A lightly driven MK2 will never give as good as a lightly driven MK1. Simple as that.

The MK2 was made to get more hot hatch owners buying the car, stupid imo - they should have offered the 2.0TDI in it like Seat do with the Ibiza. I know it won't fit, old platform etc etc :)

I am happy with the mpg, I just cringe sometimes :D

Master tech told me who buys a vRS for mpg - true but the new Octavia offers mpg and performance.

if i was sat at 60mph for 60-70miles id be pretty miffed if my car wasn't showing 50mpg or more. I get 45-48mpg at a 70mph cruise. My new job involves me commuting 100 miles twice a week after mas, and we were discussing me buying a cheap runner, but then i thought whats the point, this car will do 50mpg at 60-65mph, which is what you would expect from most other diesel at the same speed, so it would be false economy buying something else.

I wonder if my one will ever break 40 mpg...
