Finally I found out how economical this car can be. I had the opportunity to make a drive home last night from my wrinklies. The route is 37km, downhill for the first few km, and largely free of traffic lights. Average speed was 59kmh, and there were a couple of squirts... , but I ended up with 5.3L/100km, having seen 4.4L/100km at one stage during a downhill descent with the feet off the pedals altogether.

5.3L/100km = 53mpg; and 4.4L/100km = 64mpg, so the car can be economical if you're so inclined.

Still waiting for my VRS to arrive but, whatever economy it gives, coming from an Octavia 1.9 PD is going to hurt - I regularly saw an average of 70mpg on the (long) commute home from work...

If the Octavia is anything like my old Fabis, 70mpg indicated is more like high 50s in reality!

Might make you feel slightly better when you starting seeing your mpg starting in 2 and 3 regularly!

Drive to Ammanford, 12 miles at the moment is 36mpg with two big hills to climb. Going home is a little better even with a hoon down a back road. Swansea is 7 miles and it's normally under 30mpg, Worst I've seen is 22mpg

That isn't trying. That's just commuting into town. Worst I've seen is 12mpg
