The showdown REVO vs Jabba

Featured Replies

Last night I went for a brisk drive in my vRS down some nice country road's onto a private track which was very long and straight, very good condition I must say.

Anyway, infront of me what should I see but a Black Fabia vRS :D

Cought the guy up coming off my private tracks roundabout where I normally test how well the car is gripping  and we both nailed it through 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc all the way to silly speeds.

Anyway here's what your all interested, how did they compare?!?

......not yet......

well after stopping for a chat the guy told me he had it REVO'd a few months ago but had not heard of Briskoda, to which I pointed him in the right direction.

On 3 seperate runs down my private track I conclusively went by him on every occassion, and there was no room for driver error in the distance I pulled on each occassion, by the time we hit a ton I must of been a good 2 car lengths ahead, bearing in mind that I started on each occassion behind him. His car had covered 24k and was a 53 reg so did have the older gearbox (unsure if this makes a difference). Through 2nd gear there was nothing in it, but as I chucked it into third each time I seemed to pull quite quickly on him and by 70 I was past. I didnt find out if he had the cupra intake, green filter or TT vents but whatever it was i'm well impressed with my little Jabba'd furby.

I am not wanting to start a debate on which is better etc, but it did seem odd that on each occassion I pulled so much, and apparently his car was running "quickly", and as stated driver error couldnt of played too much of a part as he freely admitted he nailed it.

Just incase your listening Andy, welcome to Briskoda

Thanks fook for that. I am going to go with the Jabba lot :)

Remember Custom Code as well... my graphs do tell a story

I know custom code is brilliant.

theres loads of variables that could swing it either way.. he could be changing @ 4.5k, and you at 4k.. he could have had a full tank.. or the old style gearbox as you say. but ive no doubt he didnt have the pikey airvent mod which would help on a long acceleration thru the gears.

He sed he was chaning at just over 4k which is where his RR printout apparently had the most power I forgot to mention that, I also noticed he had just over half a tank full whereas I had just under ( 5 ltr difference  ) but even taking all this into account it is a LOT to pull, even my brother in his 172 clio doesn't pull a bean on me when I have a full tank and his is empty, when mines empty I pull ever so slightly but really it doesnt seem to make that much of a difference. To overtake someone at near 70 mph on one occassion you could put down to driver error, twice maybe wrong gear changes, but thrice?

hellfire if your vrs is the new gear box then you are going to be faster then his 03 box which is better on fuel but sligthly slower. but saying that im not sure by how much better it would be (appears to be 2 car lengths!!) some food for thought though as i'm leaning towards the revo, but i shall investigate the jabba more.

From my experience, REVO isn't 'that' good. But that is based on only 1 car that i have raced / driven.

I think the cupra intake & green panel filter certainly helped on my custom remap, means Mike could extract every last bit out of my car without an uprated clutch.

you say the new is obviously faster as it has shorter gears, but if you think about the engine setup of the fabia a long legged box might actually be quicker in real terms as you have lots of torque so you may be trying harder in each gear but you will also be going faster in each gear.

it could have also been down to tyre make/type, tyre pressure, side of dual carriage way your on(as one may get used more than the other so have more rubber on it and maybe smoother

do you find your getting any clutch slippage, or any other problems as i see you are running at 195bhp and 323lb/ft. thats a mighty impressive figure. have you lowered the car at all

It could have even been your vent mod..

on 1.8t petrol cars its estimated that up to 20% of total power is lost when the intake is over 80c

dont know how sensitive a PD is to this... but they do run more boost, and get hot very very very quickly :(

Im very happy with my revo, but cant comment on other remaps until ive driven them. :D

The above figures are before the car was detuned for the clutch :D It's actually toddling along happily at 191 bhp and 311 lb/ft and I get no clutch slippage, also I cant imagine road conditions affecting it, because we were both on the same peice of private track therefore we both were affected in the same way. Also, I do agree tyre choice/pressure may play a large part, but surely not two car lenghts and the ease of being able to pull past a car with similar horses/torque as mine, especially when a "REVO" remap supposidly had higher figures on the JBS rollers than the Jabba one did?

that bloke works for portakabin i pulled into the carpark behind him today there are 3 black vrs's at work including mine and his

I think the revo is off the shelf whereas your Jabba was a custom map. As long as the mapper is good then a custom should always be better.

Without looking up I think you'll have a few more horses and lb/ft that the revo boy too.

Remember to keep this sensible.....

....it's good to compare but let's not get into the "mine's better than yours debate".

Cheers.

what he said. I did say I wasnt getting into a debate about which is better, I was simply advising what the result was.

I must admit that the better cooling on your intercooler will have likely helped, esp. with it being remapped. Worth telling the other guy about it :D

The gearbox next - in 6th it is going to be significantly struggling to get up to speed in the older one.

Sounds like you both had a nice time though ;)

:D

Very interesting, the only way I reckon you'd know for sure was if you swapped cars, then see what happened! But I can appreciate there are certain insurance issues to consider there :)

The slightly quicker 0-60 of the revised ratio box model may be misleading. 0-60 is a fairly poor indicator of performance. The revised gear ratios are credited with a slightly lower 0-60 but all the in gear increments and rolling accelleration figures might tell another story.

If the revised ratios are lower then the older (longer) gears might be better suited for a re mapped car which could pull them harder for longer. Just a thought.

Also it was off my private tracks roundabout and not a 0-60 so we were doing atleast 30 mph off the roundabout just after the pits.

whats this tt vent/ modified vent all about??

whats this tt vent/ modified vent all about??

Have a search for "Pikey mod". It's basically cutting a hole in the wheel arch and sticking a vent there to allow heat from the intercooler to dissipate :D
