My felly pickup project

Featured Replies

Hi all, im a new member and just thought it share my work so far (ive only just started on her so be paitent will keep updating)

I have a 1.9d felly pickup and this is my progress so far (copied from vwcaddyforum)

First things first the plans...

Low as she can go

Respray (very likely to be going matt black with VW brilliant orange bed & bonnet)

Gloss black steel wheels

Side exit exhaust (to avoid it hitting once lowered)

Engine transplant (currently looking into how much work it will take to get a 20v 1.8t to fit properly)

No plans as such for the interior yet other than an upgraded sound system as whats currently in there sounds like it came from the 99p shop in town)

As i got the truck...

N/S rear inner arch..... lots of welding and fab work to be done to fix this mess lol

O/S rear arch not much better either....

Welded the rear arch's back together... So she is now getting driven daily

And put on a cheeky strut brace i picked up from the scrappy for a tenner... Result :D

Current problems to sort ASAP, front brakes need replacing, nearside suspension bush needs replacing, clutch is slipping so thats anthoer thing to sort aswell as the rust on the body. Looking forward to getting it up the standard of some of the others ive seen already on this forum :)

Done some shopping recently and have got the following :D

photoijj.jpg

Clutch Kit

Front Brake Pads

Front Brake Discs

Oil Filter

Air Filter

Fuel Filter

Glow Plugs

5L Engine Oil

2L Gearbox Oil

And last but not least a set a mk4 golf lowering springs & front shocks

Now i have a question about the golf setup, Im led to belive the rear springs will be a straight fit, true? They drop a golf by 60mm, what drop am i expected to get after fitting to the felicia, i.e. are the standard golf springs the same length as the pickup springs?

As for the front, same question about drop as above, but also im led to belive that by boring out the felicia hub carrier 2mm the golf struts will fit the pickup??? true or false? Would just be nice to know before spending my time trying to fit a part that wont actually fit lol

Ok so it was my day off work today and decied that i would crack on with replacing the clutch as its slipping, didnt do to bad considering the cold & rain

Oh and heres some pics of the progress with the clutch :)

Old and new clutch

i seem to have a gearbox sat on the floor and no clutch attached to my engine :i_dont_kn

I think that it would take quite abit more than 2mm to get the golf struts to fit, your best bet is mk1 ford focus coilovers fit straight in. And it would have been an ideal time to upgrade your front brakes but now youve got the part probs abit too late...

Plus 1.8t 20v would be very costly and complex

Hi j2sound & welcome to Brisky. Definitely a project in progress and look forward to seeing how she goes. In the past I've considered lowering my pick up but eventually decided against it. My lad lowered his Mk 3 Golf & tbh he would know far more about that side of things. On the plus side there's a wealth of info on here & the knowledge/experience to match. I've recently upgraded my sound system to a new Pioneer headunit & baseface coaxial speakers, much better

Good luck & keep the faith ;)

as far as the 20v conversion goes im not too worried about wiring and getting it running ect its the whole space thing more than anything, and the engine mount fabrication work

Sound system.... now thats my speciality :D :D :D lol 11 years as a DJ and 3 years as a sound engineer plus oads of previous custom installs on cars ive pretty much got that side of things covered

Thanks for the replies guys

Nice looking project wagon you have there... It looks in a very similar condition to mine when I got it.

don't worry about space, there's plenty of room in the engine bay to get a 20v in, it's the wiring, intercooling, and clutch hydraulics you will struggle with.

the hub carrier cannot be machined out far enough to take a mk4 golf strut without making it dangerously thin.

Ive read alot of your posts on here over the last few weeks, your advice is much aprciated, very nice work what ive seen of yours so far. Gutted about the golf struts as i already have them now :( lol o well on the bay they go :) ill keep the rear springs though, do you know if the standard golf springs are longer or shorter than the standard rear felly springs so i know what drop to expect after fitting?

The standard mk4 golf rear springs will ride at roughly the same height as the original pickup rear spring when they are compressed, they are different types of spring so it's hard to directly compare them by looking at the uncompressed length.

Hey, nice project. Looks like your getting stuck in.

I have just bought my felicia pick up project. They're great fun.

The problem that I am looking for advice on is suspension springs. I just need to know the standard length of the springs so I can work out the ride height with lowering springs. Can't measure them as someone has already done a crappy job of lowering it (chopped springs)

Cheers guys
