I think I found it (the whining noise that is)

Featured Replies

Right,

so, had an odd whining noise from my car as mentioned here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/256740-odd-whining-noise-help/

After much head scratching, and looking at it from many angles, it eventually developed into a boost leak noise and the whining went away, but it wasn't any of the boost pipes, and didn't have the ususal symptoms assosciated.

The giveaway was starting it with bonnet up, and noticing a puff of exhaust smoke from back of engine. EGR connector pipe has a split in the flexi section (#12 here: http://www.fabia-vrs.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/egr_assy_diagram-200x206.jpg).

Popped into Skoda, they want £80 (!?!?!!!) for this pipe. TPS similar, ebay ~£60. Wow.

So I'm doing a cheap EGR delete instead. Leaving all EGR stuff in place, but blanking this pipe at either end with solid gaskets. Already been Shark mapped, can't remember if I asked for EGR to be mapped out. Worst case = £50 from Shark to re-map.

Now I know there is a lot of confusion about BLT engines & being able to map out the EML for EGR - can anyone confirm Shark have been able to do this on their motor?

Cheers!
