Can you limit a top speed on a remap?

Featured Replies

As above...

Reason i ask is because my car appears not to go over 110 mph!

It'll be possible to do this

two questions

1. Who did your remap?

2. How did you find out? ;)

Presume this is on a private road? Not sure on mapped ones but my standard one used to fly up to 110 leptons then struggle to do much more. Would go to 150 leptons on the clocks

Derv Doctor did the remap when we were on bad terms that's why im a little suspicious lol

And yeah it was on my 'private' road

Quite regularly get up to 110 on my 'private road but then just flutter off and sit at 100 or whatever but went for a little more the other day and it seems to hit a wall at 110

Well then i'd suggest you go back to him or if you still aren't on good terms with him, go see another mapper who writes maps not someone who is just a map dealer, to get them to take a look at your car and its current map incase something has been done. However i'd be careful what you are insinuating about the Derv Doctor as i don't believe for one minute that a professional such as him would do that, but he may not take kindly to such suggestions being made on a public forum where it could harm his business.

I'm not aware of a speed limiter on the Bosch edc15 ecu.

Is your MAF sensor ok? If its reading low then it will reduce the fueling (depending on map) which will limit power and their for speed.

If you have vcds log group 3 or if you have other obd software log the MAF and post results.

There is a speed limiter value channel 18 in the ECU I think.

The bad news is this cannot be turned back up after being turned down. New ECU time.

Also does it pull strong to 110 then just hit a wall or does it slowly get to 110 then just seem to run out of puff.

My car will fly up to 110 no problems and still pull strong past there. Had 138mph out of mine and it's standard.

Gets to 110 quick enough phil. I havnt had the balls to try and push it past 110 because last time that happened where i was puching and pushing it at 120, it went boom, exploded my turbo and fooked my engine :(

You referring to diagnostic channel 18?

Had quite a bit over 110 on my standard non vRS 1.9TDi PD, and that's only got a five speed box. 110 from a vRS seems pretty low to me

You referring to diagnostic channel 18?

Channel 18 in adaptation settings.

Will let you put in a new value but only a lower one and will not accept a higher one once you have saved the new lower value.

Yes thats right

to quote Rosstech

Channel 18:

  • On some EDC-15 ECUs, this channel has a non-zero value in it like 190.
  • Yes, that's the "speed limiter". Don't mess with it!
  • It can only be adjusted downward, and it's one-way! You cannot increase the value, and if you decrease it, you're stuck with it.
  • So unless you want to permanently decrease your car's top speed, Don't mess with it!
  • If you do mess with it and your car ends up with a lower top speed than it had before, don't call us, don't e-mail us, and don't complain that we didn't warn you!

This could be easily tested if it was the issue by a local member with VCDS looking at the value for him, but i wonder if any limiting could be done within the map itself? I should imagine that would be possible too

You could probably use the speed based torque limiter map. You can use this to enable a launch control style function. Probably use it to limit top speed. But I'll be surprised if this has been done.

Seems like a lot of hassle to go through, plus not something i can see a professional tuner doing in a million years due to the risk it would pose to his reputation. My money would be more on something else wrong with the car.

A boost issue can cause the car to hit a 'brick wall' before going into limp mode

Good point Chris, i think the best option for the OP is to get his car fully VCDS scanned then he can check for any faults logged like a boost issue, get channel 18 checked and take it from there.

Also log group 3, 8 and 11 from 2k to redline. All seperate to get best sample rate.

I guess im just 'ruling out' being anything wrong with the car as its just had everything new. Good second hand engine, bracnd new turbo ect

I'd look at a mechanical issue. Fault codes and logs will help find the issue.

Just need get it plugged in then i guess. Wheres best and cheapest place to go for it?

just find a local member with VCDS in the VCDS subforum they usually will scan a car for some beer tokens
