The fading spoiler seems to be quite common for the Fabia vRS, can't remember why though. Not sure whether I'm up to machine polishing just yet but maybe one day!

I have a couple more photos to show you, one good, one not so good....

Rained today while I was at work so got a nice beading shot:

However when I got home I had a look around the car and spotted this on the bodywork between the left rear door and the left rear wheel arch. Anyone have any idea what could've caused this and what I can do about it?

  • Finally, the wait is over. I have finally given the car a wash and used some of the products on my list! Didn't take any before pictures of the car itself, but suffice to say it was pretty dirty, quit

Looking at the image there are a few things going on there and I am unsure which issue you are concerned about:

  1. Swirling (as highlighted by the flash) - these can be minimised by a 'filler' polish or alternatively removed by machine polishing;
  2. Scuff / Clay Marring - looks either like something has been rubbed on the surface such as another plastic part or it's from claying;
  3. Cracking - looks like the paint has cracked underneath the lacquer and this may be due to a repair job or an impact to this area of the car, a paint thickness gauge would be the easier way to find out what has happened in this area.

To be honest, I'm concerned about all three issues! Mainly the cracked paint though. I don't know of any repair jobs or impacts this car has had, certainly none while I've had the car. I'm just hoping these issues can be resolved without any major expense really.

The swirling and scuff can be easily solved, the cracking may not be..........:(

I would suggest seeing if someone close to you has a Paint Depth Gauge you can borrow to see if that panel has been re-worked / painted, you could post up in here or on DW?

OK will do. Just to confirm, what would we be looking out for when using a paint depth gauge?

The Fabia should read around 120 all around the car, if it's lower then it may have been machined before and someone has removed some lacquer, if it's higher and I mean higher then it has filler in it and it's been re-painted........:)

Just thought I'd give an update regarding the cracked paint (see above) and getting it repaired. Had a quote for £90 to get the area resprayed. Does that sound OK to people?

That sounds like a reasonable price. Paid similar price a few hears ago to get rear panel below number plate done after APC damaged it while we were on holiday.

Yeah..Thats a good price Dan..Go for it

If you can drive down here..I can polish it for you as well
