Solar Powered Battery Chargers

Featured Replies

I understand you need a continuous live Cigarette Lighter socket to run them,

After the ignition key is turned off.

Anybody had any experience with these Chargers ?

I have one I bought off Ebay. It also has small crocodile clips.

I used to use it on an old BMW that flattened its battery when left standing for long periods.

I placed it on the rear parcel shelf and ran the lead through the rear seat armrest hole to the battery location in the boot.

The socket in the Yeti boot remains live after the key is removed. I think the 12v socket in the car is switched off.

The socket in the console remains live after the ignition is turned off. I have a small panel I bought from Maplin for £10 in a half price sale. I've used it a couple of times when the car has been left for a long period without being used and it's done the trick.

Yes, but for how long? I thought it shut down after about 15 minutes?

Both sockets remain permanently live on the Yeti - or at least they do on my 2010 model!

Mine too. On all the time. If I don't turn off my cameras then they will drain the battery.

I bought the £10 Maplin charger (on offer from £20) and can confirm the front socket remains live full time. Very simple to keep battery charged leaving solar panel on the dash. Often leave car standing so a simple solution.
