Useless De-Icer Sprays

Featured Replies

How de-icer works.

The de-icer reduces the freezing point of the ice on the screen, so even if its below 0C it changes to water.

Now converting ice to water needs heat energy. And that comes from the windscreen. So after using de-icer the ice has gone, but the windscreen is now at -10C.

Then you get in the car, and your breath condenses and freezes on the windscreen. And you cant see.

De-icer is a dead loss.

And hot water does not freeze quicker harder or worser than cold. Why - because HOT WATER DOES NOT FREEZE! it goes cold. Then eventually it freezes. And the water that has frozen is COLD WATER.

  • Just use a cover for the windscreen. No scraper or de-icer needed then.

  • Pee on it

  • IMO warm water is the way to go as it raises the tempetature of the windscreen too, thereby stopping it freezing agains 50m down the road. Done it for years and as long as you use plenty of warm water
