Car completley stuck! Really need some advice!

Featured Replies

Hi all, im in desperate need if some help and advice!

My Fabia vRS (BLT) is stuck on the drive, the car wont move at all. My drive is on quite a steep downhill slope and when I went to reverse the car off the drive this morning it is completley stuck. The engine starts and turns over fine like normal. When the clutch is pressed down i can push the gear selector into any gear when the engine is off. However when the engine is running the car wont let me select any gear. When i try and push the gear selector into gear with the clutch down the car makes that deep noise like if you tried to pull off just on the clutch and wont let me select any gear. When i released the hand brake and wasnt pressing the foot brake the car wont roll forward. Which it should as the drive is steep!

When i drove the car home last night the car was absoloutly fine, drove like normal. No play in the gear box, no slip on the clutch and was seceting all gears fine.

The only thing that happened that was unusual was that I drove through deep water on the way home as the road was flooded. The car stalled as I hit the water in a too higher gear and the revs droped to much, i then restarted it again and was fine for the rest of the journey home.

I really need some help with this and any advice would be greatly recieved.

Due to the flood it sounds like your rear brakes have bonded themselves to the disc/drum, chock the front wheels to stop it rolling forward, select neutral and release the hand brake, using a sturdy block of wood, place against the wheel and hit with a large hammer to 'shock' the pads/linings to release on both sides of the car - That's what I do.

This will probably happen again until they fully dry out.

That might be why it wont move down the hill. However it doesnt solve why the car wont select any gears when the engine is turning over.

Thanks for the help though

Maybe the clutch has also temporarily bonded itself through swelling because of the excess water, leave the engine ticking over for an hour to create heat that will eventually heat the flywheel and clutch up and hopefully free itself.

Has this happened during frosty conditions, if so the water has frozen the pads to disc/drum and also the pressure plate to the flywheel. with heat it will thaw out - Must have been a deep flood !!

Yer, the soloution was to start the car in gear. The problem was that the water had rusted the clutch and gear box together. When the car was started in gear the rust was broken and the car is great again :)

Thanks for your help

Was just going to say start it in gear. Glad you got it sorted.

i would have suspected a slave cylinder issue... learn something new everyday
