Sabotaged!

Featured Replies

So I've had the Fabia up for sale for a little while now. I'm in no rush to sell it, but I won't give it away. I still enjoy driving it - now more than ever as I don't have to worry about scratching the expensive rims.

But I have a potential buyer who was meant to be coming today. So I thought I'd give it a wash and a polish and take it for a run on Thursday to make sure it's battery was ok & ready for the weekend. However it started to misfire & I expected water in the fuel or something. But the injector loom niggled at the back of my mind - it's the original, but last time I checked it it's in very good condition.

I previously have had a few people come and look at it. First one was a young lad, didn't have any insurance - so took him out for a drive. He liked it - asked his dad if he could have it & his dad said no! So that was that.

The second 2 guys were a bit weird - one was a vw techie (the buyers mate) - the other was looking for a decent commuter car to replace a written off car (not a good start) - no insurance again - so I took him out for a run. He liked the car - could his friend check over a few things? No problem - he made an offer around £2800. I said no the price would be £3600 - he asked if there was anything I had to sweeten the deal. I have a genuine set of skoda roofbars so I took him into the garage to show him - the mean time his friend was left outside with the car.

We still couldn't agree on a price & he shook his head at his friend.

Seems like the mechanic untwisted the injector loom - leaving me with a car I couldn't sell - as he knew it would misfire!!

Have you been able to fix the problem? I'd suggest giving the scum bag a call and telling him what we are all thinking!!!

Is it hard to repair then?

All fixed - took it for a drive. Already thought about sending him a mouth full by text. But he will just deny it. Because the loom was loose I've now got an engine warning light on too. Hope to get it cleared in the next few days & the incident hasn't put the potential buyer off

someone pulled a similar stunt with me some years ago in relation to the gear shift- didn't find out till the next guy came along then "you look like a t**t" some real cretins about -He may even be reading this-------what goes 'round comes 'round

What a swine. Poor form. Do you know which garage the guy was a techie at?

How did they get under the cam cover to fiddle with the loom? Its usually the connection to the injectors that goes, not the connection on the side of the head the main engine harness plugs in to.

It was that twist lock at the end of the head that they untwisted. As soon as I twisted it back into place and started it, with no misfire

Aha, so effectively disconnected it almost. Weird.

Yep!

No names of the garage was mentioned. But he was asking a lot of questions about its history - the main buyer didn't really have a clue

Arseholes. Never had anything like this happen to me but I attended a car show and on the stand I was on someone fiddled with some lads car when he had the bonnet open.

Can't remember exactly what it was, think they disconnected the HT leads and a couple of other things.

I had a set of leads 'juggled' at a show, but the guy with the car next to mine told me, he had a look after a couple of lads had been closely scrutinising my engine and noticed my amended firing order, he kindly set them back up for me before I returned, luckily he had a Rover V8 as well. I never leave my bonnet up on an unattended car now.

What a A hole.

Just took it out for a run - its so much fun to drive! Why am I selling this again??

To build VW's diesel equivalent of the Bonneville Octavia ?

Don't!! Just drove to work in him today & really enjoyed it - even got 55mpg (Jetta hardly every breaks 50!)

Do a few (more?!) mods and revitalise your love for it!

I'm guessing that the techie and his mate were hoping that you couldn't sell and then come back with their original offer, which you would of course accept.

They then have a car that makes them instantly in profit so they sell it on quick.

I'm wondering if they have done this before and how often?

Exactly my thought!

Pair of chancers Andy sorry to hear that makes me angry

invite them back for a "second viewing" then show them your fists instead.
