Mk1 Octavia vRS headunit upgrade

Featured Replies

Looking around at new headunits to replace the stock Symphony and CD changer. Is the sound quality of the stock one upto much? I heard it wasnt too good...I have a space saver subwoofer in the boot (flat) also.

What leads do I need to connect a JVC or similar up and I understand I need an aerial amplifier.

All in all, worth the hassle?

Cheers.

if you want the freedom of adjustments you get with aftermarket units then defo worth the hassle

what you looking to spend on a new unit?

Not much, under £100 all in.

you could get a 2nd hand SQ unit like the Pioneer P77 or possibly a P88 but if you're looking for new units then it will only be low end low spec units.

tbh its probably not worth you changing. What are you looking to gain from changing?

The main reason really is everyone slates the Symphony headunit, terrible sound quality.

I'm in a similar situation, my criteria was;

CD Changer compatible

Green Illumination

IPod compatibility (rear input)

Closest I could come to to it was an Alpine IDA-X300. Not bought it yet though :D

I bought a cheap 50 quid pioneer headunit around 6 years ago as a put me on when i had my 406 and still have it.

Its nothing flash but played mp3 cds and had a 3.5in jack in front of it and a pre-out in back altho never got round to putting amp in car so never used that.

It had no trouble running the standard large rear shelf speaker in back of my old volvo s40.
