Sub & amp, AUX imput & radio controlls... standard headunit.

Featured Replies

When i sold my fabia, i removed all the extra wiring i had fitted to it. I know most people hate the original head unit but i like the standard look so want to keep everything original.

Now i have a seat ibiza, thinking it would be the same wiring as my fabia i set about fitting the sub & amp using this adaptor.

http://www.ebay.co.u...=item3f0c0b0940

The plugs are still the same but the plug is one complete plug, not in 3 pieces like the fabia was. This caused an issue as i have steering wheel controlls and dont want to lose them (options?) im thinking about cutting the plug up abit so i can fit that adaptor in for the sub & amp as well as keeping the steering controlls. I couldnt remember where the sub & amp adaptor went and it fitted in two places both being 6 pins....

Anyway the next thing is, has anyone bought and used this?

Im thinking while i've got everything pulled out i might aswell give it ago, but wont bother if its abit naff. I never fitted one of them in the fabia since i had the 6 cd multichanger.

Heres a few pictures to help people, takin from the fabia showing the 3 differnt colour plugs (but on the ibiza its one whole plug)

Yes! I've been thinking about how to go about hooking up an ipod (other mp3 players are available!) to a fabia radio. Let me know how this goes as I'm seriously thinking about it.

Could you not just re-route the speaker inputs into the amp? (Assuming amp accepts high level inputs?)

As for MP3 input, I've had a quick Google but can't see what I'm looking for.

On my car, there's a lead I rigged up (following a BMW wiring diagram) where it sends the left/right signals and the ground connection into the back of the HU. I can't remember if it's the CD changer port, or another one. Something to look into for the Fabia if you could find a pin out guide?

for the mp3 input o have a conects 2 box but the amp outputs i have the same

I've seen the connect 2 box but just seems a little high tech and pricy for what i want tbh...

Im hoping the second link i posted will do the same job just for less really... My worrie is it takes up the blue plug, this is for the 6cd multichanger imput. Im thinking even with it plugged in and playing music from my ipod, when i click cd changer on the radio it still wont regester as anything plugged in so still wont play.

my conects two takes up the cd changer port aswell

would be nice to hear if it works

I used an adaptor like yours on the symphony headunit for my amp - much better than using high inputs!

I also have a connects2 unit for iPod fitted. The connects 2 blue, block, fits closest to the edge of the radio (I thought the point of the connects2 was to make the radio believe it was a CD changed, hence why those cheap adaptors won't work?); the yellow, pre-amp out book fits in the end closest the middle of the radio. I have nothing between them.

The connects2 unit has the ability to skip track, similarly to your wheel controls - so I presume there is shared wiring between the blue block and your solid block. However if its just for aux in it may not use these wires.

What you can do, is push the cables out of the coloured block, and push them into your pre-existing solid block (presumably there is nothing already in those holes). Somebody has done that on here before... I think it's simply a case of brute force to pop them out. Although I may be wrong and they may have simply cut them and taped/glued them into the correct hole. (Edit: here - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/139539-fitting-amp-to-symphony-headunit/)

Thanks for all the replies! brilliant :)

Well... i bought a different radio for the fabia last year and still have a full wiring loom for one! bonus!

Since i only have 1 yellow wire on the top plug on my seat ibiza (currently has no cd changer, aux, sub or amp) its jsut standard how it left the factory. The one yellow wire does all the steering wheel controlls for the radio, its plugged into what would be the green part of the colour plugs. Im thining since its only 1 wire, it would be quite easy to remove from the stock plug and push fit (hopfully) into the spare green part i have from the other radio i bought last year.

if i can get that one yellow wire to fit on the green plug ok, i can then attach the yellow plug with sub & amp wires already attached how it should be (see eBay link for the part) to the green part i've bodged up, and then link them two into a connect 2 box (dont really want to pay £30? for it though, wont really use it much just like gadets)

...and then all 3 plugs should fit into my standard seat radio how they do on the fabia with the 3 colour plugs all together, letting me have an mp3 connection from the blue, keeping my steering controlls from green and having my sub & amp fitted from yellow.

Not read the whole thread but, dont the facelift FR's all come with aux in by the handbrake as standard?? Mine did!

Mines a facelift blt engine etc... And dont think mine has, not that i've noticed haha. I've never seen one with aux so maybe you were lucky?

If alot of them do come with the aux, this is hope! Could be a nice easy scrap yard job!

Thanks.

I think it was on a lot of them, I actually thought it was standard. There's a lift up flap exactly oposite the TCS button!

Just checked mine and it hasnt got one :( gutted!

Asuming you kept the standard radio, how did you select the aux imput?

Ah no :(

There should be an AUX button on the radio? Pretty sure mine had anyway dude

I'll take some pictures when i go out shortly and upload them later. Took a few pictures of the loom im "working on" as well.

Cheers

Hold down the CD button to get the changer I imagine.

I can get the cd changer on, but if most of the ibizas came with an aux port the radio must have an aux button and not cd changer.

I'll post pics within the next half an hour while im waiting for my indians to get deliverd! Mmmm

Right, this is mostly for JoshH since he's had an Ibiza and knows what he's looking at but handy for everyone els to see.

This is my standard Headunit.

This is also the view of where the Aux SHOULD BE! but no... :(

-------------------------------------------------

Anyway on with the job at hand...

This is the loom i've fot sitting around so will use the 3 colour blocks to fit all my wires to. As you can see from the pictures the yellow plug is already setup for the sub wires to be plugged into. I will then remove all the wires going to the green plug, tried pulling the wire which didnt work and tried pushing the wire out with a very small screwdriver, just sort of bent the wire clip inside the plug, will look into removing them when i get a chance. With all the wires removed from the green plug, hopfully the 1 yellow wire from the ibiza loom should just push into the empty green connector. The blue will have to be used as a blank for now untill i decide what to do i.e either buy that cheap aux adaptor i first linked or stop being a tight arss and get a connect2 box.

The pics.

Ahh it's because you have the 6 disc! Facelift fr's came standard with aux but if cd changer was specced the aux went (presumably due to lack of buttons/both using the same connector)

I'll look into it then, might end up changing the cd player after all... Lots to think about!

Any advice on getting the wires out of the plug?

I've tried a few different ways... (on my spare loom of course)

Just pulling the wire, it snapped the wire with enough force and the metal bits still in the plug

Pushing the metal bit out of the plug, it just bent the metal prongs

Pushing two precision screw drivers down each side and pulling/pushing

I did find a yellow plastic 'security' bit tha slots down the inside of the plug, thought that would allow the wires to pull out but didnt...

Only way i got a wire out was by crushing the plug which i'd like to avoid incase my diy job goes south :giggle:
