POWER STEERING PROBLEMS

Featured Replies

Right guys, talk to me

Has anybody else had their power steering go hard on full lock? Mine started doing it about a week ago and its gradually getting worse and worse and now effecting normal driving :( bit scary to be honest

So my question is, firstly has anybody else had this issue atall? And seconds, could it really be something as simple as power steering fluid being low?

Ive heard the power steering reservoir is a right pain to get to? Under the battery n all that??

Ive got a bad front end knock at the moment so thought maybe that could have something to do with it but really dont know

Any help would be highly appreciated

Cheers peoples

Jake

The steering angle sensor is a common failing on the MK1 and leads to the PAS failing all together eventually. Could also be the battery, since the PAS requires a lot of juice especially on full lock.

Cheers for that matey. Just found a goo read up about how to change the PAS Sensor. Apparently the standerd ones are plastic and crappy?

Think this could be my problem? Are they expensive as i guess could do with changing anyway...

Works out circa £75 after the rebate from the dealer for the old part. Check the battery, the earths, the connectors, the fuse, the fluid level and if it's low where it's leaking. Also scan it for faults, £5ish for a generic lead and a free copy of VCDS lite is well worth the investment.
