Locking car - indicators not flashing anymore

Featured Replies

Hi all!

Had my Fabia vRS SE now since Oct this year, and apart from a few little issues at first, I love it! :)

However, going to lock the car last night I realised that the indicators no longer flash when the button's pressed on the key fob...

I initially thought I perhaps hadn't closed a door properly, but have gone round all the doors, bonnet and boot to make sure they're firmly shut, but still to no avail.

All the doors and boot lock just fine, its just I no longer get the flash from the indicators to confirm. (slightly irritating when I go to check if the cars locked from inside the house)

Tried searching around on here for similar problems people have had, but no fix for me unfortunately..

Anyone else had this problem before?

Ryan

Ive seen this problem on my dads volvo before, the indicators flashed when unlocking but not locking,, we did the same, check alll the doors boot etc etc and had nothing wrong,, couple of weeks and the problem fixed itself, we had no idea when or how we just noticed they flashed again when we locked it somewhere.. could be the same sort of thing.. wait it out and see what happens ? im not that good at car electrics so that pretty much exhausts what i can tell you :)

Do you press lock once or twice?

Do your interior lights come on when you open your door?

Sounds like a door sensor problem to me.

If you have VCDS I think you can log the door sensors.

Thanks for the replys!

Only press the lock key once, and yep the interior lights come on when the doors are opened.

Also, no lights on the dash appear when the car is stared to indicate that a door / boot is open, so I assume all the door sensors are working fine...

Double press it see if they flash. Mine doesn't flash when pressed once and flashes when pressed twice to dead lock the car.

Erm...that's the other way round.

Double click to disable the deadlock.

Pressing the button twice actually un-deadlocks the car. One press locks, deadlocks and sets the alarm.

If the lights don't flash then something is wrong and the alarm isn't set.

On the second press they will flash twice to tell you the deadlocks are disabled.

Phil

My mistake i was always led to believe the second press dead locks it. Still mine has never flashed on first press only when pressed twice.

I always thought pressing twice deadlocked the car.

Everyday is a school day

As I said if the indicators aren't flashing with one press then it means the alarm isn't setting.

It's normally a door or boot sensor. There is also a sensor on the bonnet I think too.

Phil

So on one press how many times are the lights meant to flash. Is the alarm disabled aswell as deadlocks on the second press as i always double pressed and my alarm has been set off.

Also i have left a door open on the latch and locked the car thinking it was fully closed and the indicators went off alot.

Double press keeps the alarm on but the dead-locks off.

With a single press they are meant to flash once.

Phil

Ah ok cheers for clearing it up. Maybe i have never noticed the first flash as i always double press.

Tried single and double pressing, but still no flashing indicators..

I'll see if it manages to fix itself over Xmas, if not i'll get myself a decent dongle and give VCDS a whirl! (Unless someone here is local to Kingsthorpe / Northampton area thats willing to help out... Payment given of course ;) )

Thanks again for all the replys!

Mine did this 2 years ago when "the alarm problem" occurred. Basically if it thinks there's something wrong it doesn't flash the indicators.

The bad news is this can cause the alarm to go off randomly. Mine started doing that within 5 minutes of me locking it! I ended up pulling the fuse in frustration. Problem "went away" of its own accord.

Luckily the alarm hasnt randomly set itself off yet (having set that, I've never heard it go off at all since i've had the car, so may go and test that out to see if it actually works at all!)

Just another thought aswell - opened the rear doors this evening and I appear to have the 'water ingress' problem which I've seen from here is quite common on the Furby! Do you reckon that this may have caused a bit of havoc with the electrics perhaps?

Sorry to be slightly off topic, but i'm a complete noobie with the whole VCDS-Lite thing...

Reading around I see the cables from Ebay are in some cases a complete waste of time, and its best to purchase the proper Ross Tech equipment from somewhere like Genden; however I don't really fancy forking out £260 on just wanting to check if there's a fault code with either the door sensors or alarm.

I have seen however a cheap cable from Genden here: http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_VAGUSB.html

Anyone had any experience with this cable on an '07 SE Fabia, or know whether or not it will work?

Thanks again!

hi, on another hi-jack note - how can i actually test the siren of my car without smashing my window? :) Since i've had the car i've never heard it come on. Also on the locking situation, i press it once to lock and once to unlock, the indicators flash twice in both instances.

One way to test is to sit in the car, lock it whilst your still in there (making sure to only press the lock key ONCE) , and then dance around like a mad man for a few seconds! :) That should trigger the motion sensors and sound the alarm!

By the way, I found the cause to the problem I was having! Bonnet sensor wasn't working properly. Good spray of WD40 on it worked a treat! Indicators now flashing when locking :)

That looks just like the £5 cables on eBay dude, I've had 2 and both have worked ok once you get the correct driver rather than the dribble the sellers sometimes put on cd's!

Friend had this on his 06 vRS. Turned out that it was a faulty bonnet catch. He replaced it with OEM part. Quite expensive at around £40 cured the problem.
