Bye bye M3

Featured Replies

Seem to get hassled in the car just lately which is a bit of a pain. Can be fun though :)

OK,it might not have been trying. Also although it had a private plate it looked like one that would be on a P or R plate. Some of you I am sure will know the spec.

Anyway,it suddenly appeared right up my a**e.Thoroughly annoying person who could just about see over the dash.Think it was a bit surprised that Octy RS has some grunt too.

Obviously slightly annoyed him by not being able to get past.He therefore thought it would be sensible to adopt crazy overtaking when we caught up with traffic in a not so open piece of road :thumbdwn: Bet you don't tell your other little friends about the" embarrassing day out with the skoda incident"

Was probably a 1.6 with badges stuck on .

And a brief hello to the (far more respectable) Hyundai coupe driver.Yes,mine is quicker than yours ;)

Finally after my weekend in York I can confirm I saw absolutely no other vRS's.Octy or Fabia.Bit of a rarity up there :)

I've had a brush with an E43 M3 before (thats the current spec/shape).

On a dual carriageway, I was behind him, we got slowed by something in front down to about 30-40.

When that car moved over we both booted it and I managed to stay with it fairly well up to about 80 but by 90 it was disapearing very rapidly!!!

210-220 is not going to out leg an M3 unless very lucky.

Seen a few sinlge exhaust bm's with m-sport badges and wingy bits...I don't know what car is what car from one to another, hence I always look at the exhaust and brakes. So it might be a 318 badeged up etc...must admit to moving over for a few bm drivers only to laugh my ass off when I see it's 320 or 318....but I think why take the chance, more fun to chase than be in front and have piccy taken first.

Hyundai Coupe's are nice, but they do need more clout.

M3's are pretty good all round, but certainly the E30 and E36 are not 'that' quick in a straight line. Because of an awesome level of traction the 0-60 1/4 and 0-100 is pretty impressive, but in 'real life' scenario's they are not amazing.

The irony of this thread is, after i attended the BMW Power Festival i got involved in a tussle with a E30 M3 Evo [215hp] and managed to stay with it with ease - until we got uphill and i started to edge past him. As an ex E30 M3 owner, i can empathise with this guy.......

In addition i had a battle with a Saxo VTS from a motorway roll for 10+ miles, and pretty much got the better of him, but it was close, a Renault Megane IDE 2.0 and a Clio 172. It was a lot of fun.

Standard Fabia vRS btw [green filter] ;)

loz god knows how you didnt see any octavia's aor fabia vrs's as the place is crawling with them i spotted atleast 5 octy vrs's in york at the weekend and 3 fabia's excluding mine

I once saw a 4-door 'M3'. I'm sure that ain't possible ;)

My mate had a race with an M3 in his chipped Ibiza FR. It was closer than I thought to be fair, but once going at more than a ton or so, it did pull away fairly convincingly, but it was always within sight...

They did a 4 door E36 M3 and a 4 door E36 M3 Evo. My chum has got one

I think if it was a well driven E46 M3 you come up against. a standard Oct vRS wouldn't see which way it went!!

It was the one from the mid nineties.I presumed it was nowhere near the 321 bhp or whatever the recent ones have got.

If the old ones were pushing out about 220 I'm not so surprised now!

Nice car still

I had a drag race with a new M3 last week. He was gobsmacked (but in a good sporting way with a wave and a thumbs up) that my Octy was happily alongside him right up to 155 then - oh dear he hit his limiter :D

As standard these things are 343bhp with 365nm of torque + v. v. fast!

The E36 M3 was introduced in '94 with 286 bhp 5 speed

The E36 M3 evolustion was introduced in '96 with 321 bhp 6 speed

Having owned an E36 evo and E46, there is little between them for performance. I will still be suprised if you could keep up unless it didn't have a full complement of ponies or the guy driving was simply in the wrong gear!!

The Oct vRS is a great car for the money but the performance of the M3 is on a different level.

CSL is a monster - don't mess unless you are well over 300hp.

I have never owned a E36 M3 in either guise, or an E46 of any description, but as an ex E30 M3 owner and a current BMW car club member, i find it hard to believe there isn't much difference between the E36 Evo and E46. I have found from just passengering in the two that they feel different. At various meets and shows i have often played with the E36 boys and the difference between mine and a E36 Evo wasn't massive, but the E46's, i think, are a lot quicker.

But as i say, you own / owned them so i figure you have first hand experience, i am just very supprised.....

P.S Did you attend the BMW Power festival yesterday ?

E46 it was then.Should have nailed me

Must have been something else badged up (sounded nice though :D )

As for 155 limiter that must be a right bugger .Not that I will ever experience the joys of 155 mph

He was surprised too!

Much as BMW have a bad rep (well, maybe more the driver's!) i love the sound they make while on full chat, straight six aren't they?

250 BHP will, I took one just in a straight drag along a foreign road last year, it was a stock M3 cabriolet & I guess he must have hit the limiter, mine was indicating a fair bit more than 155 but with what I think the error is I calculated only slightly over 155
