Do octavia vrs mk1 suffer from selector problems? Having some problems selecting 5th and dropping down into 3rd. Is this a plastic part ? Car has done 119000 miles

Try searching for gear linkage adjustment, it's a 5 minute job and there's utube videos to show how it's done. It should help with your problem but may not cure it.

have you got an induction kit on your car, someone put a filter on the secondary air feed on mine and it got trapped in the selector stopping it from getting 3 and 5th,

Cars standard. Will have a look at linkage adjuster cheers for now

did mine the other day as i was having the same probs as you. used the utube vid, was very easy. I did have to ease of the top cable a couple of clicks to get it spot on.
