hi i have a 51 plate skoda octavia tdi its got a fault when i restart it the revs increase then drive a mile or leave it 5 mins and the revs drop to normal , never does it after that in normal driving , it used to do it now and again but it does it evertime i restart it ,any ideas

Does it do it, even if you stop and restart the car seconds later? How are your oil levels?

If its from cold it will maybe be the auto choke?

Best a diesel will do is keep the glowplugs on for a bit when it is cold.

Oooo deja vu all over again. Does the car have the old grey CTS or the newer green one.

Getting the car scanned for faults would be the first step.

or black CTS. CTS is the coolant temp sensor. It has 2 feeds - one for the gauge on the dash and one for the ECU, so one part can go faulty but visually you might not know.

The CTS is quick and easy to change on the 110, just do it when the coolant system is cold! Have a search, it has been written up many times before. It can be found here on your car:
