Fabia VRs MKI Radio Reception Issue

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just after some advice from anyone who might know or has experienced this issue please.

My stock radio is giving me very poor reception. It's louder on certain stations than others (i.e. Radio 1 is louder than Radio 4). Also as I'm driving it's fading in and out, to the point where most of the time it's not worth listening too. It doesn't seem to make much difference where I am geographically either. CD playback is fine.

I've had the car in to the dealer 3 times. They've cleaned all the contacts and updated the software/firmware on the radio all to no avail. I read on here somewhere that it might be the booster that's water damaged, but the dealer has told me that it's the radio. Apparently it's a widely reported issue, but not specific enough for the used warrenty to fund the replacement. They've offered to go halves on a 3rd party radio.

I'm not sure I want to chage the stock radio. Anyone else had a similar issue? Thanks.

Mark

Change the whole aerial. The bases can become corroded, which contains the electronics for the booster. I wouldn't put faith in the dealer to diagnose it, it's the sort of random used advice that only shows up after several years, by which point many people will have stopped going to dealers for work. You've seen on Briskoda that it's the aerial, and a full aerial will cost you much less than half a radio so makes sense to start there IMO.

Thanks for the info and guide. I'll give this a go and report back.
