DPF Failure

Featured Replies

Shame to say but the VRs looks like it is going

Just had the wonderful news that the DPF is full and cannot be regenerated anymore. In its defence it managed 123k but am still gutted!

£1700 +/- to fix or could rip it out for about £500, however need the brakes doing (all 4 sides) and the cambelt is also due this year...oh joy

So looks like it is time to let her go...It never rains it :rain:

Still gonna get another Skoda and think I have found a (albeit older man lol) replacement, which I am looking at tomorrow.

Although the engine light is off at the mo so was tempted to try and get more from another dealer on the trade in and not mention the slight issue with the engine lol?

Cheers

Oh dear.

I assume the DPF has reached 45 grams of soot and can therefore not be regenerated without risk of it setting on fire or causing damage to other components?

Or do you know if it is simply full of ash (a by-product of regeneration)?

I would have expected both of these scenario's to result in a light being permanently illuminated, whether that be the glowplug, DPF or EML?

I wonder if a second opinion might be worthwhile?

Yer

The dealer cannot perform a regen and the emission light is always on, although it did not come back on yet from the dealer but only driven it for 5 mins, They also recommended a DPF pressure sensor to go with it.

Thanks for the info but she is starting to get a bit expensive to run, also the front shocks are 'misting' (from the previous MOT) so might be the right time to make someone else problem.

Found something at the dealer and they are going to swap the Columbus into the next car and etc and TBH I am kinda fed up with the DPF cloud hanging over me. My morning commute is slowly getting worse and is nearly always stop/start traffic which does not suite the car.

Trust me I will get another one at some stage but will be the CR version in the same blue...also thought people might be interested in the mileage the DPF got too before it gave up the ghost.

Thanks again

Good info, I've had a couple of DPF lights in the last few years on my PD170 vRS, this was in part down to the common issue of a dodgy exhaust gas pressure sensor.

I'm on 65,000 miles, I'm hoping to keep this one until at least 150,000+ miles so I may be facing a DPF removal at some point!

The DPF on the CR170 is much less problematic so it's good to see you are sticking with the vRS!

Yes love the car and hope you make it to that mileage. I will miss her lots lol

Getting myself a L&K 1.9TDI (No DPF lol) estate to tide me over for a couple of years. Will miss the go but will enjoy the 1.9's economy. Looking at this at the dealers tomorrow and they are doing a good deal on my car in part ex, but reckon the L&K will be easy to shift when I save the pennies up to get another one.

Should look good with Columbus in it and they have agreed to swap out, although not sure they will getting working with Maxidot but that is they're problem lol

Thanks for the info again

Good choice!

I average 48mpg in my PD170, when times are hard I find myself trawling eBay Motors and Autotrader for 1.9 TDi L&K's longing for the 55+mpg!

Has the one you are looking at have the cream interior? I'm not sure I'd be that brave but all the toys are nice :giggle:

Black leather so am happy with that. Not sure I could live with the cream interior TBH

Dealer assured me it is mint so looking forward to seeing it, no pics yet as the car was only traded into today, so hopefully a case of right time, right place.

Just searching the net for spec etc as it is a 2006 model, but has the 17inch alloys, so was trying to work out what came as standard etc?

PS The spoiler on VRs has also started to loose its lacquer so hopefully you will not have that problem.

I already had the laquer issue on the spoiler, an £80 respray, boo!

I think the 2006 L&K specs are a little different to the later ones, I could be wrong but I think xenon headlights only became standard fit sometime in 2007.

I may also have read on here that the L&K embossed logo on the leather seats was a later addition.

It sounds like a nice motor, hopefully you'll be able to share some pictures if you buy!

Hi

So got the car back and agreed to trade the car in...however done 50 miles in the car and no problems. Got a eBay code reader and done several scans and no faults.

Wondering if I should get a second opinion and if the dealer got it wrong. Had assumed with the dpf not being able to regenerate the dash would be lite up like a Xmas tree.

Would really appreciate you guys advice before I commit to trading the car in?

Thanks

Hi all

Just an update on this

The DPF as loaded with 60 grams of soot so defo no regen for me, however since the fault code has been cleared the car is driving well with no warning lights, but it is yet to attempt another regen.

Thought I would post this as I assumed the car would be going straight into limp home mode and this has not been the case

Thanks

Get it chopped in while all is good!!

Yep my thoughts exactly, doing that as we speak for the L&K 1.9TDi. Found one a 2006 plate with less than 40k, car is pretty much mint but is the earlier 2006 model so no ESP or Zenons which I would have liked :(...Still a good car if not a bit dull (no offense intended to any other owners) but with the roads so bad around here I am looking forward to a smoother ride!

Will miss the performance but will keep the bank manager happy lol

You won't regret it, I keep toying with the idea myself.

I actually nearly went to look at a VW Golf Plus at the weekend :o

Have promised a newish Vrs in 3 years time, reckon might commit the ultimate act of sacrilege and go for a petrol lol

If you are interested in a newish boot tray (Original skoda part) which i am pretty sure will not fit the new car, if you are passing Letchworth. You might wanna bring the family to see Britain's first round-a-bout?

Do like the new look Octavia 3 and was warned off a rapid due to not as good build quality etc.

Hi

Just an update on this

Still waiting to pic up the new car and covered 700 odd miles since my DPF was condemed.

Still going strong and the thing seems to be passively regenerating, rough idling etc...so still a bit confused as no warning lights at all yet, again was expecting limp home mode.

Before I went to the garage I put DPF cleaner in (JML I think?) and was wondering if I have got m,yself to state whereby I can see if it can be regened as the garage?

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers

Is it being chopped in as a part exchange toward the new car?

If so I'd just keep your fingers crossed until the new motor fnally arrives!

Yer that is correct

However they diagonsed the issue so know about it, then knocked money off the trade in price...granted I could have gone somewhere else but they have done me an amazing deal on the L&K and I have not managed to find anything else in my budget for the spec and mileage and need a car for work. So stuck a bit, guess I hoped if I could prove it regen'd then I could get more cash from them,

Just having trouble letting go lol...even though it the correct and right choice.

Thanks for the reply again

Ah well, at least they know about the issue so if you drop it off with the light on there will be nothing for them to say.

I'd actually want the light to come as I was pulling onto the forecourt, this way you know that they'll have to fix the DPF before they can sell it and the money they've already knocked off the P/X is justified!

How come the L&K is taking so long to become available, is it brand new?

I wish it was new

It has a private plate and it is taking an age to get the reg of the old owner. The DVLA send all the paper work to the old owner so you have to rely on them to be prompt lol

It is a early 2006 so alas no 17 inch alloys but has only covered 38k, full history and not really a mark on it. Am already considering the remap when I get more cash as sharks plug and play takes it to 140bhp and 60 more torques, which I think makes it the same as the 2.0 pd/cr without the dpf issues.

I presume if in the future I went for cr the life of the dpf would be approx the same, just that the cr copes with the dpf better. Or do you think it would have greater life?

I will add some pics when I can and hopefully pick it up next weekend. Then off to a guy called ed to update the Canbus. So in some ways with the predicted weather this weekend glad I am getting next weekend

Slowly becoming a dpf expert I think lol
