Supercar Experiece Days

Featured Replies

Has anyone got links to any of these days? My nearest is Pembrey and it's a few laps in a MG race car then a Formula ford for a few laps. Would like to try something else though

You've got the things like the RedLetter or Virgin Experience days or just approach the track directly as most will have some kind of experience offerings. For rallying, http://www.billgwynne.com/index.php/courses comes highly recommended although if you're not very good (and prang the car) expect to be going home early

Google is your friend. :D

The PalmerSport one are supposed to be the best but are really expensive

They're very much focussed on the driving rather than being in a supercar though?

Was looking at one of these experience day's only yesterday - didn't see the Lambo on the list but all the other cars were. Very tempting :D

Thats the same one (3 sisters). It was meant to be the Aston Martin, but got an email a couple of weeks before to say they had replaced / upgraded to the Lambo.

Great car & great experience but just not a track car IMO. Too soft / driver aids etc. The 360 was more like a go-kart & gave you a much more rewarding drive.

All that pails into insignificance once you get into the single seaters though :)

May take the 360 & GTR in that case then :)

As for the single sweaters they are rev restricted and I'm told that they are quite annoying to drive but I can see the appeal of not having an instructor sat next to you!

GTR is a must though I think, and could one day become affordable so I think that's a bit more up my street!

I've been watching some videos of the experiences on the 6th gear website and seems like a good day, although I wish they'd note which location the videos are filmed at! None of the drivers seem to really go over 100mph.

I did the 1000bhp one at chipping Norton for my Stag doo many years ago. I also did Silverstone rally school many years before that. Both were very good in different ways. The latter one at chipping Norton gave me the chance to drive a Ferrari 355 spider my ultimate car up until i drove it and the H Gate gearshift was god awefull. The best car there was an EX. Colin Macrae Subaru pro drive rally car and the Audi R6 was silly fast but boring. Lotus elise was good fun and they let you rag the the engine. All the others were fitted with limiters controlled by the instructors so they could limit your rpm remotely which took a bit of fun out of it. Also its an Airfield so its basically long straits with hairpains. Silverstone on the other hand was more like proper instruction on car control. It was class room environment and buy the end of it you could easily perform controlled drifts, figure of eight, hand brake turns an throttle controlled power slides. Heal toe was explained and left foot braking etc in an old skool mk2 RS2000. Loved it.

After seeing the bent Ferrari at the Silverstone experience, I understand why the instructors try to reign some people in, especially where their ambition patently outweighs their talent. For me the best experience was being driven by an instructor in a Xbow, thrashing past Aston Martins and Ferraris down the straights and wanging through the bends. In comparison the exotic supercars looked ponderous. For the price you could tack it onto your own drive and see how fast you can go in a relatively low-powered car.

I am not allowed to do one of these days due to my driving history

Shame!

I did a 6th gear experience day at Blyton Park in Lincolnshire in October. Drove an Aston Martin DB9 and a Lamborghini Gallardo. Also paid an extra £15 to get a passenger ride in a Radical race car. Was a great day, but didn't last very long, only got 2 laps in each car, got the below videos though, please don't laugh too much at my sedate driving!

I can understand why the instructors are cautious but More than two laps would be good to build confidence and go quicker. That why Jason's Castle Combe track days are quite good value. £30 for 15 mins and you can go as fast as you want and by the end of it in a road car 15 mins is enough for brakes and tyres. You get about 6 or 7 laps depending in car and conditions. Richard's GTR probably had a few more :D

That'd be good one day. Will be a good test for my 312mm brake upgrade when I get around to doing it!
