Supercar Experiece Days

Featured Replies

Any body been on one of these? My Dad and I both got one each for Xmas. We get the chance to drive 2 cars then a passenger ride or a photo in the car.

theres a choice of about 17 cars but the ones I can remember are:-

Lambo Gallarado

Ferrari 360

Arial Atom

TVR

Lotus

Hummer

Mitsubishi Evo

Caterham

Single Seater

Aston Martin DB9 / V8 Vantage

Nissan GTR

Im thinking of going for the Lambo & Ferrari, since its probably the only chance I'll get to drive one!

I have read a few stories online though that some of the tracks, the instructors are a little hesitant about you pushing the cars, like short shifting or only allowed to use 3rd gear etc. Then on the other hand I've read stories of people being pushed beyond their limits ahd doing speeds upto 160mph! I will post the link so uou can see what I'm talking about, and advice on the best track will be taken!

I did one of these at silverstone in a lotus exige, only got 5 laps and was over far too quickly!

The instructor was ok, limited to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear only though. Would love to do another day in something more powerful but at a different track with more laps.

Ignore the instructor and drive the car the way it was designed to be driven lol. I know I did.

He kept asking me if I could hear him and I was listening. After all my bad driving he still scored me 4 out 5 even thou I wasn't listening and sliding the car around the corners.

I choose to drive the Nissan gtr which was considerably quicker than the other cars.

Oh another thing the instructor tried to tell me I need to change at 4k in a gtr the power doesn't even fully kick in so if you did this you may come away disappointed. I reved the whole thing and let me tell you past 4k is were the car for me came to life.

I so want a gtr one day

I did my experience day with drivers dream days, I took the GTR and Lamborghini.

Although the track wasn't the biggest, there was a long straight and some nice chicanes. On my first lap I was accidentally short shifting (coming from my fab vRS) and was actively encouraged to rev higher, which was a nice surprise given the reviews similar to those post above by Donovan.

By the 2nd and 3rd lap I had learnt the track and was able to get a proper feel for the beast that is the GTR.... The lambo failed in comparison for me.

Walked away with a sore of 37/40 which I feel is pretty good given it was my first laps around a track and in a decent powered car.

Surely the Hummer just for the laugh? Lol

I wouldn't get too hung about the score the instructor gives you - he gave me 36/40 driving a DB9 in the wet when you could hardly use the accelerator

Are they really going to score people low? They want to encourage you to come back and spend more money

I'm just glad I wasn't on a driving experience with a maniac ignoring the instructions being given by the instructor, however much he thinks he might be Lewis Hamilton :)

I've driven a 360 on one of those experience days and all I can say it was over way to quickly. It will leave you wanting more...... Much more.

Whilst I very much enjoyed it the 2 negatives I went away with were, depending on the track, the slower drivers hampered my progress substantially and the traction control in the 360 cut in way early and bogged the engine down quite noticeable.

Apart from that I loved it as its not something you do very often. And I had no issues with the instructor limiting gear changes or anything like that.

I am Lewis Hamilton... So leave it... Lol. In all fairness I didn't drive like a maniac just drove with in limits I was comfortable with.

I got our lad a Scooby rally experience day at Knockhill for his Christmas - man was he chuffed!

I used to be an instructor for an 'driving experience' company, and no, despite what we were all told regulary, it is most certainly NOT the best job in the world.

You knew you'd done a hard days work afterwoods, I can assure you.

We were actively told to be very wary of the boy racer types who thought because they'd paid big money to be ther, automatically gave them the right to try to kill the car....and themselves with you with them too probably.

Mishaps were VERY rare however.

Cars i sat in were equiped with a kill switch and dual brake pedal.

Quite miss doing it now, but it was a long drive there and back every couple of weeks.

I'd bethouroughly wrecked by the time I got home.

Been and done one at Knockhill, well kind of. Not strictly a supercar experience, as it was the Seat trackstar style one, but still thoroughly enjoyable. Only lasted an hour, but was almost all on track.

To sound like an advert: If you enjoy your cars and driving, a track experience of ANY kind is a must.

Instructor I got at knockhill was slightly hesitant in the first session (I was still a teenager at the time, so I can understand why), but allowed me more free reign in part 2.

Found this site that seems to offer an instructor-less, but still being watched rental of track weapons:

I did an experience day for my 21st birthday a few years ago. I drove a Ferrari 360 Spider, Lotus Elise and a Mini Cooper S. Out of the 3 car, I had the most fun by far in the Mini. Not only was it the best allround drive, but I had the best instructor in that one. I've grown up around motorsport so driving quickly was nothing new to me, which meant I found it slightly frustrating being told I'm going too fast all the time even knowing full well that if I start braking at the marker they've put out, I'll end up stopping short of the corner. It did upset the instructor in the ferrari quite a lot when I flicked the car up another gear at said marker :giggle:

I think the instructor I had in the Lotus must sleep with the lights on, as soon as I breathed on the throttle, I was getting told to slow down.

But once I got in the Mini, I had a great time. Came up to the first chicane and went down the box using heel and toe and the instructor looked across at me and said, "You can drive, can't you?" And with that, he then went on to say, "I'm just going to sit here and enjoy this while you get on with it. Just make sure you give the others plenty of room" Perfect

So my opinion of "Experience Days" is that if you're someone who doesn't ofter get the oportunity to drive fast in posh metal, you'll have a great time, but for peolple who do, it may be a bit disappointing and frustrating.

I did a one in an Aston Martin V8 vantage at Donington. Was a good track and the instructor let me just drive the car, no restriction to gears of speed. Was great fun

I really fancy giving the rally experience a go, any chance you can post what your lad thinks of it once hes done it.

Im used to motorbikes anyway so hopefully they wont strangle my fun too much! I'm damn tempted to give the lambo and the GTR a go. Will have a look through the tracks / sites available!

Atom is probably one of the fastest but I can understand why you'd want to drive the Lanbo and Ferrari.

I did the palmer sport track day experience and although expensive at over £700 its worth every penny!

The instructors will push you to your limit and beyond. If you don't spin out you haven't pushed your limits!

The GTR is a must-drive.

I've driven a fair amount of exotic machinery, and that was a beacon of insanity and technology. I got out feeling like I'd driven a thousand miles... assault on the senses!

I did the F1 experience day earlier this year & loved it.

Got to drive progressively faster cars & then single seaters leading up to the Formula 1 car.

Ferarri 360

Lamborghini Gallardo

Formula Ford

Formula 3

Formula 1

Unforgetable day, however the Lambo left me disappointed. Maybe good on the road but not on a track.

Loved the 360 & the F3.

The F1 was awesome 600bhp & 650kg...........

sure, i'll try and remember

Has anyone got links to any of these days? My nearest is Pembrey and it's a few laps in a MG race car then a Formula ford for a few laps. Would like to try something else though

Was looking at one of these experience day's only yesterday - didn't see the Lambo on the list but all the other cars were. Very tempting :D

To the OP, I think it comes down to whether you want a supercar experience or a racing experience. I like the single seaters :D

Chris

The PalmerSport one are supposed to be the best but are really expensive
