water in drivers footwell

Featured Replies

I know that we have had a lot of rain recently, but most of it now seems to be residing in the drivers footwell???? (not had a car "wet" inside car since 1970 allegro!!!)

Any suggestions how to "fault find" and cure most welcome,

thanks...

A friend of mine had exactly the same problem on his 2006 Octavia. He had two cracks in his door seal. One on top and the other was in lower/front corner. He just replaced the seal and that was it. I guess this would be one of many thing to look for?!

+1 ^

This seems to be a pretty common problem caused by faulty door seals. As for a 1970's Allegro, that was my first car and the only reason that I'm now handy with the spanners. The bloody thing broke down every week without fail, and as I had no money, I had to fix it!

Good luck with repairing the leak.

Had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago.Driver side front and rear footwell wet through. Drilled holes in the bottom of all the doors as apparently they are prone to fill with water and overflow into the footwell via the door card. Stood in heavy rain overnight and driven through deep water and so far so good.

IIRC there's a protective barrier sheet in the door which can move(?) and lead to water ingress. This was replaced in the work's Scout and cured its leak issue.

Sarge.

Are there any drain holes that might have been blocked by debris from trees etc?

Thanks for all the replies......managed to "suck" most of the water out with a vacuum the other day. Have checked the door seals and they seem OK...but will now check the doors..

...as ever...many thanks for the replies....

I have a 2008 Octavia Elegance hatch. Need help with in car puddle in drivers footwell.

Been back to dealer 3 times but they cannot find where the water is coming into driver's footwell. They renewed door membrane but it changed nothing. In addition when the car is wet the rear wiper plays up and the 'mileage' display flickers on and off when the lights are on. When the car dries out both faults vanish. Going back to dealer tomorrow but would appreciate any ideas.

Long shot, you don't have a sunroof do you??

Thanks for that, water seems to be draining ok at wheel arches and no, I don't have a sunroof. Can't understand why water should interfere with electrics unless it's coming in where the wiring is. Is there wiring in the doors? eg for rear wiper and trip computer display.

That's why I wondered if you had a sunroof as the leaks from there sometimes come down the a pillar and in around that area when the drain holes get bunger up.
