Dead battery

Featured Replies

Hi all,

This may of been asked before but can't find it so, looks like my battery on my 06 Octavia vrs is starting to go, or may of just been the fact that I have only done a few short stop and start trips over Christmas, but this morning took my car out but when went to restart it the battery was flat.

If the battery has gone, can I just buy one and change it myself, which I am quit capable of doing, or do I need to take it to a dealer to do as there would be problems due to disconnecting the battery?

Many thanks for any help.

hi mate ive just replaced my battery on my 06 vrs, change it yourself its really easy i had no issues when it was reconnected

Yes really easy, loads of lights will come on dash but they go out as soon as you've drove down the road

I would say you just flattened the battery with the short trips. Take the car for long run using only the electrical parts you need. No heated windows/mirrors, heater fan on the lowest setting, air con off. Fingers crossed the battery just needs a bit of tlc.

Thanks for all the replys.

Will try to take the car out for a run but it is back to the usual routine from Wednesday with short runs back and to to work but it has been on a battery charger all afternoon so maybe that will do for now until I get a chance to go for a decent run.

Just do the same as above for your daily work run.

If you've got the luxury of off-road parking and can run a power lead out to the car, get a cheap 12v trickle charger and put a cigarette lighter plug on the end. Then plug it in overnight - the cigarette lighter socket is permanently live and will work fine with the ignition off. Does the job for me.

If the battery needs all this tlc its on its last legs. Mess about trickle charging if you can be bothered you will get a bit longer out of it - might even see the summer when it will be OK. But if we get a bad frost you will be knacked.

I have a trickle charger already so do you mean plug the trickle charger into the mains and then plug the charge lead into the cigarette socket to charge the battery, as my car is kept in the garage overnight so could be an option until I get paid at end of month and can get a new battery.

And shorter journeys with lots of turns will also kill the battery as it has electric power steering. I found this very recently on my 54 plate, and had to replace the battery.

Euro Car Parts, ordered on line with the BRISK25 promotion code, will give you an automatic 25% discount.

Hi Mike,

Do you have a part number please?

Thanks,

Mike.

Yes, that's right. It works a treat for me. Leave it overnight at 1 or 2 Amps charge (around 20AH into a 40 or 60 AH battery), and it's equivalent of a good run.

Just go on Euro Car Parts on line and input your reg number. The right battery choice will be there. I've just got an Exide 096 on mine, but mines a TDI, it may be different on the petrol.

If you order on line don't forget the promotion code!

Hi Mike,

Been on the Euro Car Parts online site and tried to use the code but unfortuanately it comes up with code has expired or does not exist but never mind as the prices are not too expensive any how, well no where near as expensive as I expected, especially as you get free delivery.

Mike.

when you replace the battery you need to realighn the throttle with vag com. It will run much better after.A Bosch S4 is the one I replaced on mine

I have tried to order online now. code is fine. BRISK25 make sure you enter like that no gaps and upper case letters
