Damp rear footwell on 05 Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

I have noticed a very damp area in both of my rear footwells on my Fabia vRS.

Here is a photo of the damp. My dad and I think it could be knackered rear door seals, what do you reckon?

Many Thanks,

Oli

He's close, check the seals first for any damage that could cause water ingress, if they are sound then search for door carrier repair on here :)

found a link for you,

Brilliant! Thanks for the info!

From that photo with a very moist door seal, would you replace the door seal first if not damaged but a thought on it maybe not sealing, or do/check carrier?

if i'm right, when you take the door card off there isnt even a seal inside them so the waters running straight down the inside of the door into the car or something, sure i have read it before, someone may correct me but you can buy a Skoda/VW Sealant kit to seal the doors... design fault!!

I think this is the kit, seen it on a thread by JoshH.

hope this helps :)

and a waste of money IMHO, just use some Plumbers Gold.

Covered 10,000 times on this forum. probably

Foam door carrier seals have failed.

Can be replaced but is a pain in the butt job to do not least

because the door ancillaries carrier rivets need to be drilled out and replaced.

(Except on very very early cars where they are bolted on)

Better to seal using a non silicone based sealant. Plumbers gold as already mentioned

I used Shell Tixophalte on my Fabias. But regular bituminous gutter sealant will work well.

Here's the tutorial vid.

Brilliant thanks very much guys!

I had a similar problem, but it wasn't the door seals. The rear windscreen washer fluid pipe on mine runs under the carpet/ and over the rear wheel arch just behind the back seat. On my 52 plate, there's a splitting point in the pipe in that area which can pop out when the washer fluid freezes and the pressure forces the joint apart. The washer fluid then runs down the wheel arch and settles under the carpet. In my car the pipe runs along the nearside. It looks as if the damp carpet is on the nearside from your picture. Also I notice that your carpet looks slightly foamy. If it is, it could be the washer fluid. Does your rear washer work okay? If that is the problem, it's a bit of a pig to get to behind the plastic mouldings (barked knuckles and lots of swearing) around the boot area, but it's a simple fix if you can reach the pipe.

Just a thought, before you fiddle with door seals.

^^^ if you look at the pic you will see water on the top of

the rubber seal, that's only getting there one way.

The hose popping thing is common as well but I don't

think that's the case here given the photograph.

I expect the cloudy marks on the carpet are mould.
