i have got a fabia 1.9tdi (104,000 miles) that has started to judder when accelerating in all gears, it also seems to lose some power / hesitate when accelerating.

At the moment the problem is very intermittent and when the juddering occurs if I turn the engine off and on it seems to clear the problem and the car runs fine.

Also the judder does not occur from cold and only happens if I have driven the car for 5-10 minutes and then get stuck in traffic before going on to faster roads again.

I would appreciate your thoughts on this as it is starting to concern me.

Juddering sounds like your dual mass flywheel starting to fail

the other issue sounds like sticky turbo vanes, try this

Thanks for the reply, I will try cleaning the engine / turbo as described. I am not a very experienced mechanic but this seems fairly straight forward. I think I will also replace the fuel filter and air filter at the same time as I am not sure when this was last done.

In relation to the flywheel failure, I think that at the moment the issue is very intermittent (only happend twice in the last 3 weeks) and as I can stop it from happening simply by turning the engine off and on, do you think that the issue might be electrical i.e. a sensor not working properly?

ah i see, the juddering you speak of, could it be described as a misfire???

or is it kangarooing?
