ABS didn't kick in!

Featured Replies

Driving home this evening when the lights changed to Amber, i hit the brakes (traffic light camera) and my wheels locked up, que a puff of smoke and the smell of rubber.

Could any one advise as to why this may have happened?

My car is Skoda Fabia 1.4 2001 Classic. I hate an ABS light on the dashboard that comes on and goes out upon Ignition / Engine start.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Michael.

Hi Michael,

From my understanding the Classic models don't come with ABS, my previous Comfort model didn't have it. I believe it is the Elegance model, or specified as an extra when the car was bought that have this. Not totally sure on the exact models that do.

The light on the dashboard when you place the key in the ignition is a dashboard light testing sequence from what I understand as well.

Parkers says that ABS was an option on classic and comfort models.

It's likely it didn't kick in as you don't have it!

Even in my VRS when ABS does trigger the light doesn't come on, as said above the light on the dash I just part of the start up procedure regardless of if you do or don't actually have ABS

Check your option codes in the service book or on the label near the spare wheel. If you have 1AN you have ABS.

Surprised they didn't have it. I thought it had become compulsary by that time.

My Felicia had it.

easy way to tell..................open bonnet look at the passenger side of engine bay and at the back (nearest bit to the passengers feet)....near the top should be about 6 quantity black painted metal pipes all about 5mm in diameter which connect into a small slim silver coloured oblong block about 7cm long..............this is NO ABS...............if however in the same place you have a large block consiting of a black metal cylinder bolted to a lrge silver aluminium block with a large black plastic block bolted to that (total size about 8 inches by 8 inches by 5 inches.....you have ABS!!!!

ABS was an opitional extra on the Classic as it was a base entry model....

just look for sensor on hubs or look for the pump and ecu
