Alarm and Dialler

Featured Replies

I have been a more than a little concerned recently as my employers have decided in their infinite wisdom to ban car parking on company premises. As i work nights and now have to leave my Yeti alone on the street, i am a extremely worried about its safety.

So what i need to know is this. Is it possible to install an sms type dialer to forward either a text message or phone my mobile with a warning should the alarm on the car be activated.

I dont know where any of the alarm components are on the Yeti, so i dont know what is fitted. On some aftermarket items there is a feed which becomes live as the alarm is triggered.

I suppose i could take it to an alarm specialist and see what they could do, but i like a tinker and would be nice to fit something myself.

Also does anybody know of such a unit that would be suitable to text or call in the event of an alarm activation ?

Cheers.

I seem to remember Clifford Alarms do a complete alarm that does what you're looking for but it's a complete system but doe to it's sophistication does not come cheap.

This however may not be what you're looking for as I suspect you're just after an 'add-on' component to you current security system.

I hope you're successful in the search.

Does the company you work for have a carpark on site??

If so just use it. :D

This may help (or not!):-

The Yeti has am alarm sounder (which is prone to premature failure incidentally) mounted separately from the other alarm components so, if you can find it, that is probably a good place to find a feed. However this will only be of use if the sounder is not on canbus as otherwise it will always be live and will need an interface to trigger your SMS (or similar) dialer. I doubt that it will be on canbus - but could be as it has the ability to tell the car's main fault memory when it has failed.

A Tracker fitted to the car might be the way to go.

When the car is started, broken into or lifted at an angle, the sensors go off triggering a signal which is sent to Tracker. They in turn will ring you up and ask if you are with the car etc.

Last time I had one fitted it cost about £300 and cost £100/year.

Thanks for the answers. I suppose as the alarm is built in cabus may be a problem. I will have to find the sounder, and as it will only be supplying a feed to a relay it may be ok.

There is a car park, but it is vulnerable as it is so quiet and cctv isnt very good on there. At least on the road i can nip out and check the car now and again.

Thought about some sort of tracking device, but didn't want the extra expense.
