Fixing the Door Leak On A Locked Door ~ Possible?

Featured Replies

So the fabia has started leaking through its rear doors. The real problem is that the door is locked shut as the central locking has died on that door. I'm not that fussed about the locking, but is it possible to fix the leak with the door locked?

Hope your MOT is not due soon-it's a sure fail. it is possible to get the door card off with the door shut as you have to do that to sort the lock..

It's passed it's last mot (possibly two) with the bust door

A rather generous MOT tester.

Think you will struggle to remove door card for access. Impossible i reckon.

I'm pretty sure you wont... there are 3 torx screws at the bottom of the door card that you may need to open the door to gain access to

Regarding the MOT, its a recent regulation change. All doors must be able to be opened from the outside, otherwise its a failure on the MOT.

From section 6.2 of the current testers manual.

B. Doors

1. Open and close the driver’s and passenger’s doors. Check that:

a. each door latches securely in the closed position

b. the driver’s and front passenger doors can be opened from both inside and outside the vehicle

c. any other passenger doors can be opened from outside the vehicle.

Reason for rejecton.

a. A driver’s or any passenger’s door does not latch securely in the closed position

b. a driver’s or front passenger’s door cannot be opened from both inside and outside

the vehicle using the relevant control in each case

c. a passenger door cannot be opened from outside the vehicle using the relevant

control.

Torx screws on the fronts only. It is totally possible to remove the door card with a shut rear door as my garage did it to get access to lock.

If i remember correctly it is possible but will be very awkward.

stand corrected.... 3 screws on the front

It could be done, take out the rear seats and put something down incase you get any spillages :)

Yes it can be done.

Although are you sure that your door just isn't dead locked? This would require you to remove the door carrier any how. I'd get that door sorted first.

The motor in the lock has died. The driver side rear door died awhile back, but I managed to disconnect the central locking whilst it was open. Not ideal, but usuable.

So it should be doable, not easy, but doable. The lock will probably have to wait, I looked into that sometime ago and seem to remember its a nightmare

It's not to bad but it would be alot harder having to remove your sealed carrier again only to then have to re-seal it.

Removed mine completely with a deadlocked rear door and got the defective lock out  but it is a bugger.

Any tips/advice for getting the lock out?

patience, a long screwdriver and a hammer LOL. I keep meaning to make a 'how to' thread. I'll try and get a pic up of tools used and where I hit the lock to free it up later. And I wasn't joking about the hammer and screwdriver! Brutal but effective ;)
