Bolero Fitted

Featured Replies

As the title suggests I have now swapped out my stream for a nice Bolero unit. After what has to be the quickest purchase I have made over the net and my first purchase via the forum I can't thank Andy (InexEng) enough for his incredible service and willingness to help me. The bolero he sold me is immaculate condition and he even through in a soft cleaning cloth to maintain the screen. Hats off and thumbs up to Andy. Topper of a bloke.

A before and after picture. The difference in sound quality is noticeably better and the visual appearance is far superior to the streams green rectangle.

Thank you!

Looks a lot better too and even the air con dials seem happy they are saying "hi hi"!

Haha. They are always on hi hi because it's cold cold.

I've just noticed some creases in the carbon grrrr will have to smooth those out now I know they are there.

Your phone holder is very neat did you fit it? If so do you have a link to it?

Yup, love my bolero.

Got to admit, i've never understood the fascination with the way carbon fibre looks. Great weight saving material when it's the genuine stuff, but it's bloody ugly!

Did you need to upgrade your canbus ??

Did you need to upgrade your canbus ??

No. This was a concern but I did some research and Andy also helped out with this. I believe it's only cars pre 57 reg that require upgraded canbus/gateway

My phone holder is two parts

The main bracket is a brodit pro clip 653526 dash mount.

The second part the bit that actually holds the phone is a halfords phone holder which the main mount can be detached from the bendy arm with the suction bit attached. Then the holder is simply stuck on with double side foam pads for registration plates which you can also get in halfords.

The mount I used

Quite expensive considering what it does but st least the phone is visible and held neatly out the way and will hold most phones too. My iPhone 4S fits in nicely.

Hope that helps

Cheers Gregie might just get one.

It looks like the Stream surround is the same as the Bolero one, is this correct ??

Yeah exactly the same one.

Looking great -

- Glad it went in so well

Enjoy

This is what I want to do but the canbus upgrade sounds a bit too much- I don't have much patience!

I assume your car is 57 reg or older then? I have had no issues with mine it's an 08.

Yeah, 2006.

A bum. I think the gateway is quite and ease job? Someone sells them pre coded on the forum too for quite a reasonable price. It be worth doing makes a big difference.

One thing I have noticed though the bolero doesn't have a clock now the mrs keeps asking what the time is.

2006 CAN gateway should be behind the glovebox.

10-15 mins to swap it. Another 15-20 to get the coding spit on and you'll be OK.

2007 onwards and the CAN is above the driver's feet and much more awkward to get to (unless you go at it from the engine bay / scuttle panel).

Eddie_NL sells them pre-coded. PM him direct. He knows his stuff and has reasonable prices.

2007 onwards can be done from the inside, had to try gaining access in my car. (tbh I have removed the trim to add footwell lighting)

The trim can be removed easy enough the move the relay plate and you can get your hand in

One day I will have one of these head units...

Wished you were around when doing mine. Spent at least an hour trying to locate the thing hidden behind the fuses and didnt manage to get it back quite right as I couldn't maneuver my hands enough. Why couldn't mine be the one with it behind the glove box, lol

Go in from above!

There's a rubber hatch that leads only to the CAN Gateway. Very easy to get it right from there.

Don't suppose you could show where please? I would like to put it back in the correct place rather than leave it wedged like I did

I'll look up the tutorial I used and post a link.

But basically remove wiper arms (that's the hard bit), remove scuttle panel (both parts), remove wiper arm linkage & motor (if it doesn't come out easily, remove more trim).

On the driver's side (towards the driver's wing mirror) you'll see a black rubber cover held in by three nuts.

Undo these and you'll see the CAN gateway with reasonably good access (with less cut hands and less hassle) than going up from the driver's footwell.

The tutorial I used has pictures and better descriptions, but hopefully you get the idea.

I'm no mechanic and it took me less than 1.5 hours to change the CAN and put it all back the first time. Could now do it in less than 45 mins.

Thanks guys, took me ages to find the can going through the footwell. Will keep this on file if I get some time to go and sort the positioning or if it comes lose and drives me mad vibrating
