BMW 1 Series......

Featured Replies

Guess what I'm driving today?

Don't worry, not about to buy one of these over-priced, underspecced badge-snob mobiles........

On the otherhand, it handles alright.

The dash layout of pretty comprehensive, easy to understand, with big pictures on the display in case you;re a bit thick (and to have parted with money for it, you might be)

One thing I did like - it's got an "Aux In" for hooking up your ipods and what not with out those horrible tape adaptor thingies.

But it's gutless - you've really got to grab it by the scruff of the neck and throttle it hard to get anywhere, though once it's at 30-40 it's not bad.

Not a bad sized boot, but no rear seats to speak of if I'm driving......

And don't even get me started in the poor rear visibility.

Not as bad a car as some in the press would have you believe, but the price doesn't make sense - 16K for this bottom of the range........

IIRC, that's a Furby vRS with a play on the options list, with change or a Octavia II mid-upper range.......:rubchin:

Yep would agree with that. I certainly isn't a bad car but for the money you're not getting great value, putting it politely.

The Furby is a more fun drive imho. Hmm Octy II :D

That's a Furby vRS with the *entire* options list (including satnav)!

I will be test driving one at the weekend so I will give me views on it. I'm not sure I like the look of it tbh.

But its a badge thing. The Furby vRS wouldnt sell any if it was

I agree the badge costs money, but having driven the 118d a few times (a company car someone has) it's a significantly better car than the Furby.

The interior quality is much higher, and the rear-drive & perfect balance make it much more fun to drive.

Discounting the 116i I'd argue the whole range offers more than the Furby.

It bloody well should at that money though!

I love the one series, and certainly would love to have one if i could have afforded the extra cost over the Fab. The fact it is a rear wheel drive hatchback makes it unique in itself - which helps the 'diesel driver car market' no end.

as for the rest of the range - i think those middle class, middle aged women with no kids need an alternative to the Golf 1.6 SE.

If my Fabia manages to save me enough money in the next 3-5 years i would definatly consider this:

The BMW 130i

0-62mph in 6.2

top speed of 155mph.

50:50 weight distribution

Six-speed manual

262hp

Jane's going to give you such a slap. ;):D

Course, if she's in a BMW 1, she'll never catch me - back behind wheel of my TDI later on tonight :P

Jane's going to give you such a slap. ;):D

P.S Jane has a 3 not a 1 ;)

Aye...suddenly though after posting...she's got a 3 series compact.

That said Gwilo's comments still apply. ;):D

:finger: to all of you :D

But as a special compromise, I promise to give way to any Skodas with the audacity to be in MY lane :)

But it's in a totally different segment to the Fabia anyway, so I would expect that.

What you need to ask is it a better car than the New Octavia, Golf, A3, Focus, A class, etc. While it may be a bit more classy than the majority, the whole picture is not as clear cut.

I have been accused, in recent years, of having it in for BMW. There was even some talk, after my recent review of the dreadful X3, that I would not be allowed any more press demonstrators. And this is why I

My old Xantia's stereo had one of them. Maybe I should've hung on to it to sell at a premuim for that reason (the stereo; not the car - that was a dog! ;) )

its a shoe :thumbdwn: ugly slingshot design with a back end that looks like ti should belong to a kia

The 1 series definitely appeared to be more solid and had nicer integration, just generally better materials used. That's one of the things you get for the premium. Yep and the badge, which matters to a lot of people ;)

The car I drove was certainly not bad, but not as much fun. Then, really, some people just want a car that is reliable and a beamer tends to be really :D

Different market for sure, and each to their own, I always say ;)
