OTT maintanance.

Featured Replies

Changed all the bulbs on the car today even though all were working perfectly. Only had two rear tail light bulbs go in the last nine and a bit years so thought I'd do some preventitive maintanance . A bit OTT or a good idea? Didn't cost much £ so what the hell.

Fair Enough!

Its the kind of thing that leads to people being able to buy the likes of BMW's and Mercs cheap,

owners that want Full Dealer Service History find out that the Big Service at 110,000 miles will include all the bulbs being replaced and cost over £1200

so get shot of the vehicle instead.

Or the Service is done on the cheap, 'Not Full Dealer or BMW service history and the next Service or Warranty Fault kills its second hand

or Trade value.

Lots of good cars around that have never had bulbs changed

& lots of replacement bulbs last no time IMO.

Ah yes... The great bulb mystery... Now you've disturbed them you will be replacing one every 6 weeks forever more now.

Best way to minimise frequency of changing bulbs...........

Had a Corsa from new that used to pop rear taillight bulbs every couple of months. After 3 years or so of swapping them over I bought a dozen and put them in the glove box. Never changed another tail lamp bulb for the remaining 4 years that I had the car for!!!

And friends say my 5 - 6,000 mile oil service intervals are OTT. I guess maintenance is a personal thing but I've never swapped out the bulbs as a preventative maintenance measure. Whatever makes you happy though :-)

Strange item . I always go with makers recommendation. But years ago I worked part time for a Taxi firm with ye ancient Cavaliers. They'd an project with a big oil firm to use their oil .Regularly oil from changes at maker reccommended interville was sent back .Report was that oil was still good. So on one car ,they increased the change interville and it was at a lot longer than the recommended mileage that the oil failed tests .So - perhaps the recommendations are based on worst case scenario. Me -I work on the principle of why spoil the ship for a hap worth of tar .

I get this too. Oil change every 5k miles. Just changed air, fuel and pollen filters too after 1 year/10k miles. For how cheap I can get the parts for, it's a no-brainier.

As said, whatever makes you happy.

All bulbs changed and all still working fine lol! I had the time so what the hell. Still have the old bulbs as spares.

Just spent 5 hrs on some detailing of paint work while were enjoying this fine weather.

Put some gtechiq g1 stuff on windows and opti coat 2.0 on paint work so will see how it goes.

Oh and i will be fitting some CL 5+ brake pads very soon to my tarox b32-6 calipers.

Not yet........ touch wood!

BANG! [feck!] ;)

When I wanted the hid bulbs replaced on our Mk1 Octavia I got the garage to replace all the bulbs in each of the front light clusters at the same time since it'd be a pain to do them one at a time. If bulbs are easy to replace, like for the rear lamp clusters, then I'd not bother, although having gained access I would check the condition of each and replace any that were excessively darkened.

I'll be doing the same. Will have done about 5500 miles by the time I've had my Vrs for a year and I'll be changing the oil and the air, fuel and pollen filters as well. A bit excessive maybe but I'm not going by Skodas interval on the air, fuel filter of 60,000/4 years.

Always get my oil done between 8-10K then i change Fuel filter at 15K then Air filter at 10K.

If i get one bulb go on one side i always change other side too as it won,t be long before it goes anyway.
